The gathering held at Graha STR Building, Jakarta, was attended by no less than 70 alumni UNAIR. Most of them serve as HRDs in companies spread throughout Indonesia.
In addition to strengthening the relationship and increasing awareness of alumni at the alma mater, the gathering was aimed to get input from participants related to the preparation of UNAIR graduates career.
In the occasion, UNAIR Rector Prof. Moh. Nasih invited alumni to contribute to the alma mater by participating in preparing the career of the graduates. He hoped that HRD officials can take part in improving the rank of UNAIR, both at national and international level. One of the contributions can be done by inviting alumni who have doctoral education to give guest lecture in UNAIR according to the field of their studies.
“The support of alumni has an impact on university rankings,” said Nasih.
Meanwhile, Jonan, alumnus of Accounting bachelor’s program UNAIR graduated in 1986 gave motivation to many participants while sharing experiences on his service as minister twice, namely Minister of Transportation and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources.
He appreciated the alumni gathering initiated by IKA UA for providing motivation for alumni who already have important positions in the community to be more concerned with the alma mater. He also hoped, HRD leading companies can follow the Airlangga Career Fair which became the annual program of Career and Entrepreneurship Development Center (PPKK).
“Let’s together support university programs, to build this nation,” said Jonan.
Head of PPKK UNAIR Dr. Elly Munadziroh, MS, drg hoped that this kind of alumni gathering can be done regularly and continuously. This is to improve alumni’s reputation as well as to get recognition at national and international level.
He also hoped that the alumni database is getting better and complete. This helps the university to map out alumni that have spread across the region and contribute to the alma mater.
General Secretary of IKA UA Dr. M. Budi Widajanto, Drs. Ec., M.P. said that the alumni gathering was aimed to strengthen UNAIR connections with alumni.
“Hopefully UNAIR alumni spread in any position. Because the success of a college is on how many alumni work in government, state-owned companies, and private-owned companies, “said Budi.
In addition to alumni gathering, IKA UA is preparing a book review from Ahmad Cholis Hamzah entitled Renewal of Inspiration of the Nation . Furthermore, IKA UA is also working on the establishment of IKA UA in several regions in Indonesia, such as West Java, Yogyakarta, and Banten. (*)
