UNAIR NEWS – National Citizenship and Family Planning Board (BKKBN) East Java held meetings with students to prepare for the demographic bonus in 2020. One of them was the meeting on 17-18 November at Hotel Selecta, Batu City.

UNAIR won two awards, First Place of Citizenship Ranking achieved by Mega Widya Puspa Ningrum (student of Faculty of Public Health 2015) and the 3rd Place for Student Concerns with Citizenship achieved by Hevi Yonvia Umarta Harmaheni (student of Faculty of Economics and Business 2016). Both, joined the Student Activity Unit (UKM) of Citizenship.

Out of 96 participants from 16 universities in East Java, Mega managed to win in the knowledge contest on population. She won it after a final round against the contingent of State University of Malang.

There were 16 colleges which sent six students as representative. Mega said that to select the two winners, knockout system was used. If the participant wrote the wrong answer, then they failed immediately.

In the general knowledge contest, not only the citizenship problem in East Java was tested. There were questions about reproductive health, the prevalence of population density and growth of population in Indonesia, the demographic bonus era, and the participants were also required to be aware of population data in Indonesia.

“I answered the questions correctly and beat the opponent from State University of Malang,” explained Mega.

Hevi also felt proud of her achievement. The competition was different from Mega’s. She must follow a series of selection including written test and presented material on “The Effect of the Environment on Citizenship”.

“There are two selections I followed in this competition. First was written test, second was a presentation with a theme given by the committee. I am proud to be able to contribute to UNAIR Citizenship UKM. Hopefully with this achievement my friends are more enthusiastic to make achievements and gain reputation for UKM with better quality, “explained Hevi.

Some universities participating in the competition including State University of Malang, State University of Jember, Surabaya State University, State Islamic University of Sunan Ampel Surabaya, Muhammadiyah University Gresik, University of Muhammadiyah Malang, University of Trunojoyo, University of PGRI Madiun, Ponorogo University, Bojonegoro University , and there are still five other universities. (*)
