International Students Join Teleconference with Edith Cowan University Lecturer at UNAIR Tuesday, 26 November 2019 08:58

UNAIR NEWS – 23 AMERTA (Academic Mobility Exchange for Undergraduate at Airlangga) students joined a teleconference with an associate professor from Australia. The event is part of Consumer Culture course by Prof. Dra. Rachmah Ida., M.Com., Ph.D, a lecturer in Communication at Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UNAIR.

The teleconference took place in Information System Directorate Room (DSI), Campus Management Office C UNAIR. The students from various countries are from Management and Science University, Universiti Utara Malaysia, National Chi Nan University, UniKL Malaysian Institute of Information Technology, Ateneo de Manila University, Le Havre, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, University of Malaya, and Universitas Airlangga.

In the teleconference, Associate Professor Panizza Allmark visiting professor from Edith Cowan University (ECU) Australia explained about consumer culture in Australia. Starting from history to its development in this digital era.

“We want to compare it (consumer culture in Australia, ed) with conditions in Southeast Asia and several countries in Europe,” said Prof. Rachmah Ida.

The teleconference was carried out after field trips to several media and advertising industries in Surabaya. Previously, the students visited two major press media in Indonesia, namely Suara Surabaya and Jawa Pos.

“We learned mostly about consumer culture, the impact of globalization on food and consumer behavior,” said Celeste de Bliencle, a student from Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences.

Aside from Celeste, Aron Aldrich Guevarra from Atenweode Manila University also stated that they gained a lot of knowledge through AMERTA UNAIR program.

“An excellent opportunity for us to explore multiculturalism. Thus, we can get insights from various perspectives” said Aron Aldrich Guevarra, a student who took Diplomacy and International Relations study program.

For information, UNAIR has an AMERTA program that can be followed by students from various countries in the world. Through this AMERTA program, students can attend lectures at UNAIR as well as join cultural and language classes. One of the AMERTA programs is the BIPA or Indonesian Language Class for Foreign Speakers. (*)
