UNAIR Islamic Economics Student Association holds study visit with University of North Malaysia

UNAIR NEWS – UNAIR Islamic Economics Student Association (HIMA EKIS) Public Relations Division held a study visit. This time, it was an international-scale study visit collaborated with the Islamic Finance and Banking Association (IFBA) of the University of North Malaysia (UUM).

The study visit on Saturday, October 1, 2022, was held online to obtain knowledge and information about the management of student organizations. The goal was to get evaluation material for quality improvement, system improvement, and new policy-making to be more creative and innovative in running organizations. HIMA EKIS and IFBA UUM have the same basic educational background: sharia economics.

“The study visit was held to fulfill our duty of ukhuwah aspects in Islam: ukhuwah islamiyah or Islamic brotherhood, ukhuwah insaniyah or human brotherhood, and ukhuwah wathaniyah or national brotherhood,” said Fawwas Aqueela Hammada, Head of HIMA EKIS.

In this regard, Muhammad Nazmi bin Abdullah Thani, Head of IFBA UUM, was grateful for that joint study visit opportunity. He hoped that the forum could positively impact the quality of organizational leadership for both parties. In addition, the use of Malay, slightly different from Indonesian, did not become an obstacle during the discussion.

Exchange of insights on Sharia Economics

After each division attended the discussion session in the breakout room, a Forum Group Discussion (FGD) was held on sharia products in Indonesia and Malaysia. One of the sharia products introduced by IFBA UMM was the pillars of grants or giving something to the desired person voluntarily.

There are several sharia products in Indonesia, including sharia savings. The savings apply wadi’ah contract, the savings do not get interests, but the bank gives gifts or bonuses to customers.

There was a lively discussion. Each organization provides a clear and varied perspective. Before the end of the event, quiz games were held between HIMA EKIS UNAIR and IFBA UMM about the insights of the two countries, Indonesia and Malaysia. The event was closed with a group photo. (*)
