UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga D4 (four-year vocational program) of Destination Tourism community service team of the Faculty of Vocational Studies held a development program of Sableng Etawa Farm educational tourism in Selotapak Village, Trawas, Mojokerto. The program, which started from July to November, successfully received the Village Community Empowerment Program (P2MD) funding.
The group, which consists of 10 Tourism Destination students, was led by Bagas Nauval Ahmad and supervised by Nur Emma Suriani SSos MSi. Several Tourism Destination lecturers also assisted the program.
The program aims to develop the educational tourism of Sableng Etawa Farm, managed by the local community.
“From the start we observed the village to see the current problem to be solved and developed into a profitable product for the community. We see the potential for tourism development in Selotapak Village, Trawas. For instance, the educational tourism on etawa farming,” said one of the team members.
“Selotapak Village has a high tourism potential with its beautiful view and the cold weather as it is located in the high terrain. Those are the reasons why people would love to travel,” she added.
To achieve the goals, the team began forming a tourism awareness group of the locals. They proceeded with developing the human resources to create a new tourist destination to be managed sustainably.
An educational tourism management dissemination was also held within the program to empower the community to manage the business independently.
The implementation included the Training on Arranging Tour Packages and Training for Sableng Etawa Tourism Awareness Groups to Create Sustainable Edutourism.
The community service team also gained a lot of experience in livestock care and milking goats with the breathtaking views of Penanggungan Mountain and the cold weather in Trawas.
The team hoped that the program may raise the tourism awareness of the local communities of Selotapak Village and manage it well. Hopefully, a well-managed tourism destination will provide a new economic sector for the community and reduce the unemployment rate by empowering the local human resources.
