This year, Airlangga University’s Faculty of Law has several guests and leading legal experts, both from within the country and abroad, to share their experiences and knowledge through guest lectures. This is, of course carried out to introduce various angles of the field in order to open scientific horizons for all academics. Although it has often been held, guest lectures at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Airlangga, continue to this day by presenting Prof. Joseph Tanega, Ph.D. from Vrije Universiteit Brussels. He is an expert in law and finance who will teach for approximately one week from his arrival on Monday, October 31, 2022.
Through an interview, Prof. Joseph Tanega expressed his happiness because he had the opportunity to return to the Faculty of Law, Universitas Airlangga. “I have wonderful things to say about the University of Airlangga, especially about the Faculty of Law” he answered when asked. He was very impressed with the hospitality given to him every time he visited. “I find the faculty that are extremely friendly, are extremely engaging,” he said. This also made him always feel welcome at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Airlangga. “It’s a kind of extraordinary feeling because of that, and I’m very grateful for their invitation for me to come here to do a little bit of teaching and to share some ideas,” he explained happily.
On that occasion, at least two classes were scheduled for him, namely in cyber law and nuclear law courses. The material presented in the cyber law course is about developing electronic contracts (smart contracts and blockchain). Not only that, his presence is also needed to provide one on one coaching training to increase publications for all lecturers. He says teaching at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Airlangga is fun because the classes are active. “I asked several questions of the students, and they were engaged as well as asking me questions on their spontaneous gestures. I think the students are interested. I believe that there are first-year students, so they’re quite enthusiastic, which I found refreshing,” he concluded.
When Prof Tanega asked about his impression of the students, he explained that he had been surprised by the various habits. This is because he has never received such treatment in his native teaching place. “When they left the classroom, they all said Goodbye to me, which I’m not used to from many students, and they were extremely polite. It’s a wonderful culture. Showing respect and a sense of I’m here for a reason, and I’m so happy that you’re here to share your ideas,” he said with a happy expression. Finally, he thinks that his teaching experience at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Airlangga is one of the best of the many universities he has visited.
In closing, he was also impressed by the rapid development at the Faculty of Law, Airlangga University, so it was ranked number one. According to him, this is encouraging news and should be grateful for. “I’m sure you’ll continue on your path to greater and greater success,” he concluded at the end of the interview.
