UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) Universitas Airlangga has graduated new veterinarians. As many as 103 veterinarians were inaugurated on Wednesday, April 5. To date, UNAIR has graduated 4,055 veterinarians since the its first batch in 1975.
The oath-taking and inauguration was held in Airlangga Convention Center (ACC). Prof. Dr. Suwarno as the Vice Dean III FKH hoped that this inauguration improve the quantity as well as the quality of Indonesian veterinarians.
“These103 new vets, Insya Allah will increase the number of vets in Indonesia. Veterinarians work as the connecting factor of human and animal’s health as there are threats of zoonoses such as Avian Influenza, Ebola and Zika, the latest. Therefore, the roles of vets are really needed in the society,” said Suwarno.
Suwarno hoped, after being inaugurated, they can immediately serve in the society. Hopefully, their roles will protect the society from zoonoses.
“We always make effort to produce new veterinarians. From eleven universities with Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) in Indonesia, hopefully UNAIR contribute quality vets capable of dealing with zoonoses,” said the lecturer and Head of Indonesian Veterinarian Association (PDHI) of East Java.
Vice Rector IV, Junaidi Khotib, Ph.D said that veterinarians have big responsibility as they learned how to control and monitor veterinary health. Their role is not only to treat sick animals.
“Veterinarians are the spear of food monitoring diagnosis for the consumers,” he added. (*)
