UNAIR NEWS – The role of universities in providing input and suggestions on policies made by representatives is needed. As a forum for academics, these inputs and suggestions can be an important consideration for the common welfare.
Therefore, the Indonesian Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) visited Universitas Airlangga and invited UNAIR academics to provide input and suggestions on the draft bill of on income tax.
The visit of DPD RI was held in Plenary Room on Monday (19/6). On behalf of UNAIR, Dr. Muhammad Madyan, SE, M.Si., M.Fin., as Vice Rector II UNAIR was attending. In his remarks, Madyan said that in the last few years state revenues suffered problems and raised fears of reduceing state revenues in the tax sector. Therefore, tax amnesty was  conducted.
“Ttax amnesty policy finally conducted. It is now over and another policy is needed as tax is very important, “said Madyan.
Madyan also said, regarding the country’s revenue from the reduced tax sector, the impact is not only on the state infrastructure sector but also affecting the education sector.
“When our country’s revenue decreases, the budget for education in the field of infrastructure is reduced. So, with this visit, a certain policies may be generated and  continue to encourage state revenue through taxes, ” he explained.
Responding to Madyan’s statement, Vice Chairman of Committee IV DPD RI, Drs. HA Budiono, M.Ed., said that on the issue of state revenue from the tax sector it is necessary for various efforts, one of which is efforts to expand the things that must be taxable.
“Many business sectors are not yet recognized in the Income Tax bill. Therefore, we need inputs from academicians of UNAIR about which will be taxable, “he explained.
Furthermore, to finalize the discussion, there was also a team of experts on the draftbill of income tax, Dedi Rudaedi Ak., M.Sc. In his explanation, Dedi explained that the need for revision of the income tax bill is based on various things such as the development of the business world, efforts to expand the tax object for justice and to encourage increased compliance with tax obligations.
“The income tax bill has been changed four times, if will be changed for the fifth time. Consideration for this fifth change is to give more impact, “he said.
