UNAIR NEWS – Head of Student Executive Board (BEM) Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Airlangga, is next in our special coverage “Head of BEM Kita”. He is M. Lutfi Al Jufri, a student of International Relations.
Interviewed by UNAIR NEWS on Friday, January 26, a student who is known as Lutfi explained that being the head of BEM is one way to participate and contribute development, both for alma mater and the nation. He also emphasized that the development effort will be done by involving all components, mainly students.
The student from Tegal also said that students have a strategic role as agents of change. Therefore, through BEM FISIP UNAIR he will encourage all students to improve the value and quality, either through various activities or improve academic performance and non-academic achievement.
“During my campaign, I emphasize the role of students as agents of change. Indeed it has often been used. But I wanted to speak up about it again, “he explained.
To be an agent of change, according to Lutfi, students must avoid things that are not constructive, especially in the current global era. Students must be more intelligent and work constructively. Therefore, said Lutfi, the things that are not useful are better left behind.
“What we must do now is things that are useful for the environment, our alma mater, and of course the nation,” he said.
Therefore, added Lutfi, students should not expect and demand something from the alma mater only. Moreover, students should be able to give and make achievements so the good name of the alma mater and the nation can be maintained.
“We should not merely expect what university can give. Instead, we should try our best to provide the best for university. For example with academic or non academic achievements that can bring good reputation for the university, “said Lutfi.
Asked about the role of BEM FISIP in supporting UNAIR into a world class university, Lutfi said that in the future, he planned to combine education, economy and community service in his work program. For the former staff of Ministry of Community Service in BEM FISIP, the improvement of quality is not only the result of the program in society, but also from the students’ awareness on their surroundings.
“Because inevitably, not only the building is getting better or the research is better, but the quality of students’ social awareness is also necessary,” he concluded.
