A Decade of Madura Student Forum at UNAIR

UNAIR NEWS – Being away from family, to study in the city is one of the toughest phase that must be faced by region students. New academic and socio-cultural environments in the city require them to be both adaptive and active, especially in realizing the goals of local students in college.

The regional student forum has become one of the key such as the Madura Student Forum (Formara) at Universitas Airlangga.

Founded in 2006, Formara was born out of a desire to gather fellow Madurese students at UNAIR and to raise the spirit and solidarity in completing higher education in UNAIR.

“Also, fellow nomads from the Island of Salt wanted to unite in an organization at first,” said one member of Formara. “And, right on Thursday, January 25, Formara has reached been a decade (ten years, ed),” he added.

Mutual support

Moh. Qudsi Fauzy, one of the lecturers at UNAIR, who also came from Madura gave full support at that time. Until finally, Formara UNAIR was formally established and established by all Madura region students.

As a marker, on January 25, the first meeting of Formara UNAIR was held. Various declarations of student development programs as well as inauguration of the organization was held at that time. Their programs were from a chat in the hallways of the faculty until a serious conversation related to education, including a student adherence program.

“Formara is a form of wish to gather Madurese students with their tretan (brothers, ed) to share stories, the good and the bad. Also, mutually provide supports and spirits for the struggle in UNAIR, “he said.

Marking the Formara UNAIR performance, the anniversary was held this year. The Head of Formara 2018 Anniversary Hanif revealed that the presence of Formara is very important for all students from Madura.

In addition to developing the ability outside of education, the forum can be homesick remedy. It can be a place to relieve their anxiety in campus.

“The most exciting time is when we chat, maintain ties, and share the joy,” said Hanif in Instagram.

Regional Spirit

Regional issues inherent in such forums are not a form of racial issues. However, in the forum, the spirit of regionalism showed in the sense of the desire to nation, the region of origin, together.

A similar cultural background can lead the struggle of students from regions to be able to survive in the city. One of the forms is with the spirit of mutual cooperation and familiarity in facing problems.

“We are always together in the good and the bad times in a joyful ride. Despite the hardships, do not forget to always be happy. It’s about our story. About our second family. About the dynamics of an ark. In fact, it’s about all of us. Everyone understands this togetherness, exploring the oceans in one ark, “said the Head of Formara 2017-2018 period Azam. (*)
