UNAIR Aquaculture Students Finish Internship at BPPP Banyuwangi

UNAIR NEWS – After a month of service, nine undergraduate students of Aquaculture (BP) PSDKU Universitas Airlangga in Banyuwangi successfully completed the internship program conducted at Center for Training and Counseling of Fisheries (BPPP) of Banyuwangi Regency on Monday, February 2.

Each student is given the freedom to choose the desired location of the internship program. There are two kinds of internship programs, PKL (Field Work Practice) and mandatory internship. For the implementation, students may perform individually or in groups in a business unit or in certain institutions related to fisheries and marine. Another requirement is to submit a proposal and conduct regular report to the lecturers.

One of the favorite locations of BP students to have their internship program is at Center for Training and Counseling of Fisheries (BPPP) of Banyuwangi Regency. It is because the location is quite strategic with modern technology.

There were nine students who finished internships in BPPP for about one month, and it ended on Monday, 26 February 2018.

A student of BP PSDKU UNAIR Banyuwangi explained that there were not only PSDKU students who had internships in BPPP Banyuwangi, but there were also some students of BP UNAIR Surabaya. Besides in BPPP Banyuwangi, many other BP study program students do internships in Situbondo, Bali, Semarang, Surabaya, Jepara, etc. This is done to broaden the insights of BP study program students before their professional work.

The internship activity is done by submitting application to the institution, after being consulted to the supervisor. After that wait for the call from the institution along with information duration of internship.

“The internship program usually based on agreement, followed with a seminar of the to the institution, sending recommendations to the institutions, and continued with the collection of accountability report of internship results to supervisors,” said a student of BP Banyuwangi who did not want to be named. (*)
