Directorate of Academic Affairs Holds IPE Seminars

UNAIR NEWS – The Inter-professional Education (IPE) Directorate of Academic Affairs Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held a seminar and workshop on “Implementing Comprehensive and Accommodative Interprofessional Education Curriculum” on Friday, June 29. The event was held in Kahuripan 300 Room 3rd Floor of UNAIR Management Office.

The task force of IPE UNAIR appointed by faculties attended in the event, and received a decree (SK) from the Rector. The event was also attended by teams from every faculty. The speakers in the event were Prof. Muhammad Saiful Bahri Yusoff, MD., MMEd., Ph.D., of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Widyandana, dr., MHPE., Ph.D., SP.M from Gajah Mada University (UGM).

Prof. Saiful said that IPE is the moment when two or more professions learn from each other, allowing effective collaboration and improving health outcomes. IPE is designed not for immediate needs, but must be designed from scratch.

In addition, the IPE Curriculum is not unfamiliar. IPE can actually be easily accepted in every health faculty.

“In order to find the meeting point of the curriculum, there must be an existing curriculum equation,” he added.

In addition, dr. Widyandana disclosed the reason for holding an IPE because there were many issues arose in the field related to inter-professional conflicts. Therefore, the existence of IPE is expected to reduce inter-professional conflicts.

“The core aim of this collaboration is that the effectiveness of patient treatment will improve through teamwork,” he added.

On the other hand, Dr. Prihartini Widyanti, drg., M.Kes., As the activity coordinator explained that IPE is needed. The field of health requires collaboration and effective communication between professionals. The goal is to minimize the wrong medical error and referrals.

“Therefore, this IPE learning must be implemented before the real world or the world of work that will be faced by students. The main thing is so that all are accustomed to feel learning together with other professions, “he added.

At UNAIR itself, he continued, there are six faculties involved in IPE. Namely, Faculty of Medicine (FK), Faculty of Dentistry (FKG), Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Nursing (FKp), Faculty of Public Health (FKM), and Faculty of Psychology.

“The plan, this year we completed five modules as a cluster. Our first module is a module on HIV, extraordinary events (KLB), passion safety, drug, and disaster management, “he said. (*)
