UNAIR NEWS – Two students of Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) Universitas Airlangga made another achievement. They were Siti Nur Seha, student of Physics class 2014 and Mohammad Wahyu Syafi’ul Mubarok, class 2016. Their work won the first place in Science Innovation Competition (INVASI) held at Udayana University from Friday, August 31 to Sunday, September 2.
They worked on scientific research and software application in the health sector. They had an idea to develop a mobile application that can detect cervical cancer early. Furthermore, Siti explained that based on data from World Health Organization (WHO), Indonesia ranks first for the highest number of cervical cancer in the world.
“This is terrible. We want to reduce the incidence of cervical cancer in Indonesia, ” she said.
Her motivation to participate in INVASI was as a form of application of the knowledge learned in FST UNAIR. That way, the knowledge gained does not only end on paper, but can produce innovations which provide benefits to the community. Siti claimed to be very grateful as her work was the best among other excellent innovations.
“We are happy because our innovation was appreciated and hopefully it can be accepted in the community in the future. We hope it can be a good start to continue developing this application, “said the student who is active in Citizenship club.
Nevertheless, she did not deny that during the development of her work, there were some obstacles, for example, difficulties in collecting data in the observations.
She said that getting data from the Health Service and other health experts was not an easy thing.
Even so, she and her team-mate did not give up. They also re-set their determination and initial goal to become human beings who benefit others. Armed with this spirit, her team successfully completed the research.
Before attending the INVASI final in Denpasar, Siti participated in another activity, 2018 Kino Youth Innovator Award (KYIA) on August 28 to 31 in South Tangerang.
“But, Alhamdulillah, there was still energy left. So, on 31st of August afternoon I was able to land directly in Denpasar to attend INVASI activity. It includes presentations, seminars and exhibitions, and a gala dinner as the awarding session of INVASI winner, ” she recalled.
Siti added that to reach this point, it must be accompanied by earnest effort and prayer. He also expressed her hope after following the INVASI.
“Efforts and prayers cannot stop as well as spirit must not disappear. Hopefully we can continue to provide innovations needed by the community through the knowledge we gained in college, ” she said. (*)
