UNAIR NEWS – Department of Biology, Faculty of Science and Technology UNAIR continues the Community Partnership Program (PKM) entitled “Technology of Candied Vegetable Production as Floripreneurship Empowerment Efforts for Housewives Association in East Coastal Areas of Surabaya, East Java” on September 9.
In the second meetin, there were Drs. Agus Supriyanto, M.Kes., Dr. Listijani Suhargo, Dra., M.Si., Tri Nurhariyati., S.Si., M.Kes., M. Hilman Fuadil A., S.Si., M.Si., Intan Ayu Pratiwi, S.Si., M.Si., Febri Eko Wahyudianto, S.T., M.T., Drs. H. Saikhu Akhmad H, M.Kes., and Dr. Junairiah S.Si., M.Kes. as chairman of this event. This time, the housewives were taught the method of packaging candied vegetables and simple bookkeeping. This was a continuation of the previous meeting, making the candied vegetables.
“The packaging method is taught so that the product can last long and have a high selling value. Furthermore, the mothers of prospective entrepreneurs must be able to do bookkeeping so that they do not suffer losses, “explained Saikhu when opening this event.
The pretest, like last week, was conducted at the beginning as the opening of this meeting. Then the first presentation was shown on the packaging method. Intan as a speaker said, packaging can be done on glass or plastic containers with different treatments.
“Most of the plastic has been sterilized by the factory during manufacture so that sweets can be directly packed in plastic containers. In contrast to containers made of glass, before and after entering sweets, it must be steamed for about 15-20 minutes or more for larger pot, “said Intan.
Intan also explained, improper packaging will change the texture and appearance of sweets. It can often cause contamination of fungus due to the entry of foreign organisms. The housewives were advised to wear masks and haircaps to prevent contamination. The next presentation was simple bookkeeping, explained by Junairiah. Mothers were invited to specify the income and money spent so that there was no loss from the initial capital.
“Not a few people underestimate this. Actually, the important thing is that there is an income and expense. If the bookkeeping is chaotic and not well recorded, unfortunately it can go bankrupt, “explained Junairiah.
Junairiah added, this simple bookkeeping was important because it could help business analysis, monitor existing money and know financial transaction information. The activity held from 9am in the morning continued with the practice of fruit packaging and the assessment of candied products. There was also a post-test to find out how much they learnt in the event.
“The housewives here are all smart, one more meeting as the end session and hopefully they could keep making vegetable sweets not only when this activity takes place,” said Saikhu.
