UNAIR NEWS – To commemorate its 27th anniversary, the Faculty of Nursing (FKp) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) hosted a routine spiritual gathering for faculty and staff on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. The event took place at the Florence Hall within the Faculty of Nursing building on the MERR-C Campus and featured Dr. KH Marzuki Mustamar, M.Ag., who provided the keynote spiritual session.

The Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Prof. Dr. Yuni Sufyanti Arief, S.Kp., M.Kes., inaugurated the proceedings with the hope that the entire academic community could derive meaningful wisdom from the event. She emphasized the vital importance of maintaining inner peace and sincerity in carrying out daily professional responsibilities. She further maintained that every task performed must contribute to providing a tangible contribution to both the institution and the general public.

Strengthening scientific values in daily life

In his keynote address, Mustamar emphasized the necessity of integrating religious values with a scientific approach in daily conduct. He reminded the audience that religious understanding must be conveyed through a rational and knowledge-based framework to prevent any potential misconceptions. He also urged participants to avoid extreme or excessive attitudes when interpreting religious teachings.

According to Mustamar, an overly dogmatic or doctrinarian stance can actually impede the progress of science and technology. He noted that various scientific advancements, such as DNA testing and biometric technology, have already provided substantial benefits to human life.

“Everything must be based on data, from the moment we listen, research, and analyze to the point we make a decision. All of these steps are part of a responsibility for which we will eventually be held accountable,” he stated.

Mustamar also highlighted the strategic importance of preserving national unity within the diverse landscape of Indonesian society. He asserted that Islamic values must function in tandem with a spirit of tolerance and mutual respect for others.

He maintained that diversity is an inescapable reality of the nation’s existence, and therefore, every individual must adopt an open and wise mindset when navigating differences.Furthermore, Mustamar cautioned the public against being easily manipulated by provocative information intended to create division.

“When confronted with differences, one should choose a stance based on established facts and data rather than mere personal opinion. By doing so, we can safeguard our collective unity and prevent the emergence of conflict,” he concluded.

Through this initiative, the UNAIR Faculty of Nursing encouraged its entire academic community to bolster the values of science, spirituality, and tolerance in their daily lives. The initiative was expected to  build a harmonious academic environment while simultaneously providing a positive contribution to society at large.
