UNAIR NEWS – Lake of Campus C UNAIR was quite clamorous on Friday afternoon, August 12. There was a crowd enthusiastically looking at 71st Independence Day Celebration Committee which was trying the rafts made of banana trunks for rowing race. They seemed to be enjoying the moment. Once in a while they laughed loudly on the rafts as they had difficulties controlling them.
“Why can’t you guys row in unison,” grumbled Agus Irwanto, PIC of the rowing race who also got into the water, to his partner Putra Radityawan. “But it is really difficult bro,” said the student of Psychology department who serves in Information and Public Relations Center (PIH). They then laughed out loud.
Beside those two members of committee, there were also people in charge of safety equipments, the life vests, Dilan Salsabila, Dian Wirawan Noer Aziz and the Head of PIH itself, Suko Widodo. They were in turns trying the rafts. “Balance is the main key for participants’ success,” said Suko. The expert on political communication added that the committee will collaborate with Wanala team as the guide and guard. So the participants do not need to worry. It is guaranteed for its safety, comfort and it will be fun. Rehearsing the equipments and location was necessary so the event will be success.
Banana trunk rowing race will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2016. On the same day, there will also be Cheering Contest. The participants are expected to be supporters for the rowers. The participants are civitas academica from any units, faculties, institutes, libraries in UNAIR. There will also be Javanese hosting contest participated by Rector, Deans and high ranking officials and some foreign students. (*)
