Adequate Public Transport, Challenge of 72 Years of Independent Indonesia

UNAIR NEWS – The improvement of public transportation is the challenge of Indonesian independence that has reached 72 this year. It was a statement of the outstanding librarian of Universitas Airlangga in 2016 Agung Budi Kristiawan.

Agung defines independence as freedom of expression without any pressures from any parties. Freedom of expression for him is realized by working according to the field of interest.

In its 72 years of Independence, according to Agung, the improvement of transportation infrastructure in Indonesia must be done soon. Therefore, adequate public transportation means energy saving for the society and there will be more effectivity.

“Public facilities like MRTs, buses are needed in big cities like Surabaya. Because traffic jams has made our lives colonized and our energy wasted on the road, ” he told UNAIR News on Wednesday, August 16.

Of course, the construction of adequate public transport facilities requires an effort that is not easy. For example, the desire could have collided with the increasing vehicles purchases.

“The development of public transportation infrastructure is difficult. But if you want to be determined to fix this chaotic traffic, of course can with the rules and realize the ingredients well, “said Champion 3 Librarian Teladan East Java in 2010 it.

As a librarian and Indonesian who does not have authority, he had hope for the improvement of public transportation in the future.

What role can we take to improve Indonesia? To improve public transportation, one of them is by promoting adequate public facilities using social media, especially this time, when social media became favorite media of most people in Indonesia.

To UNAIR, Agung has an aspiration and hope to become an educator that can be an example for the community to have a high concern for the environment.

“There should be a car free day in UNAIR. So for a day students and staffs cannot bring a personal transports, let UNAIR occasionally breathe with oxygen, not just carbon. A state university should be an example for the concern to the environment, ” he said.

The general public can also show their concern to environment by travel less using private vehicles. Bus or train can be a choice of transportation.

Agung optimist, if there is a rule and cooperation of the entire community, adequate transportation like in the big countries in the world can be achieved.

“Singapore can do it, Indonesia surely can realize a convenient means of transportation for its residents,” he concluded. (*)
