UNAIR NEWS – Department of Community Service, Student Executive Board (BEM), Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Airlangga, is committed to realize Higher Education Tri Dharma through Abdi Desa to be able to build Indonesia from the village.

This time, Kedungdendeng of Jipurapah Village, Plandaan Sub-district, Jombang Regency, was chosen by BEM FEB UNAIR for community service. From the first survey that has been implemented, there were many problems need to be addressed by the village, one of them was the effort to be free from diseases due to bad environment.

Hafidh Zain as the environmental coordinator said that the problem arose due to lack of public concern on the importance of clean environment. The people have done various things that can damage the environment such as littering and illegal logging.

“A lot of waste is dumped in the river that disrupts the water flow,” he said.

Derry of Abdi Desa Steering Committee added that the environment will be the main focus in improving life and support the public health in Jipurapah Village. One of the leading programs in the field of environment was the improvement of sanitation and sanitation facilities, as well as clean village contest.

“The environment was one of the goals of Bina Abdi Desa 2018, and it certainly needs an intensive effort to raise public awareness Jipurapah Village. This is a difficult job because there are limited garbage facilities and no garbage dumpsite, but we will try to achieve the goal of Bina Abdi Desa 2018 in this Environmental Sector, “he said.

In the future, the environmental program will be directed towards the village community’s creative program in managing waste into economic value products. However, he added, it will require many related parties.

“The Environment Office of Jombang Regency and the environmental community in Jombang regency also need to be involved,” he concluded.
