BEM FST Realizes Higher Education Tri Dharma Through Abdi Desa

UNAIR NEWS – Student Executive Board (BEM), Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), Universitas Airlangga in mid-April, successfully held the opening of one continuous work program named ‘Abdi Desa 2018’. The program as a form of implementing one of Higher Education Tri Dharma, the community service.

In addition, Abdi Desa’s goal in Gumeng Village, Mojokerto Regency, according to Ahmad Fahmi Ramadlan as the chief executive, is more aimed towards community empowerment and other 3 focuses, namely economic, education and social.

Meanwhile, Fahmi Royani, one of the event organizers explained that the activities of Abdi Desa this year is themed ‘Community Synergy in Building Village Potential as Independent Community’. The activity was started with a speech from the village chief and the chief executive who then slice the tumpeng (turmeric rice).

“After eating together, there was a counseling of catfish farming by M Syafrizal Izaki from the Thousand Smiles Foundation for the residents, especially youth of Gumeng village,” said Fahmi.

The counseling was aimed to support cultivating catfish properly and correctly, so the benefits can be obtained by the villagers Gumeng. Fahmi also added that the water quality in the village is very good because it comes from a spring that is suitable for the cultivation of various fish.

Positive Response

The presence of Abdi Desa activities conducted by BEM FST was welcomed by local residents. One of them is the Village Head’s Head. For him, the event was very beneficial for Gumeng residents. Moreover, he added, the cultivation of catfish will be a new source of income of the villagers.

“With the guidance of Faculty of Science and Technology students, we become directed and we can feel the results in the future,” he explained.

In the evening, the activity continued with watching a show together and roasting corn in front of Gumeng Village Hall. The residents were enthusiastic that the interaction can make people familiar with the committee. Then, on the second day there was a morning gymnastics event, community service work, and a feast with Dumeng villagers.
