“Burnout” in Productive Age

UNAIR NEWS – The great volume of work often leads to prolonged stress. No doubt, this condition is often overlooked because it is only considered a stressful condition that should not be feared. In fact, stress actually has a threshold. If it is left unchecked, it can lead to Burnout symptoms.

The term Burnout may sound unfamiliar. Therefore, at the commemoration of International Mental Health Day, which is commemorated on October 10, a number of doctors from the Department of Mental Health RSUD FK UNAIR-RSUD Dr. Soetomo held a campaign to disseminate Burnout at work.

Dozens of doctors walked in a group distributing pamphlets and a rose to employees and lecturers around Dr. Soetomo General Hospital and the medical school.

“Burnout is a theme set by WHO for this year’s anniversary,” said Nalini Muhdi Agung Sp.KJ (K).

In the context of psychiatric illness, burnout means extreme fatigue syndrome in physical, mental, and emotional states. Burnout can occur due to accumulating stress for a long time.

According to Nalini, Burnout in workplaces often occurs in the line of work that involves providing services to others, such as health workers in hospitals, policemen, doctors, teachers and journalists. Although this syndrome can also be experienced by other workers in other types of professions.

Until now, there is no definitive data that mentions the type of work that triggers the most fatigue. However, some of the previously mentioned professions mostly trigger fatigue syndrome.

Burnout is generally caused by work situations which do not support or fit the needs and expectations. If it is allowed to drag on, without us knowing, the productivity and performance can decrease, ” she said.

This syndrome can infect anyone with no certain age range. Because it involves the workplace, then this syndrome most experienced by workers of productive age, ie between the ages of 25-50 years. When a person experiences Burnout, he or she often feels frustrated, depressed, apathetic, easily bored, withdraws from the social environment, and becomes a rude person.

If it is left unchecked, the disorder causes depression and excessive anxiety. The condition has been categorized as severe. If it is severe, then it is necessary to see a psychiatrist.

Therefore, relaxation is necessary. It does not have to be expensive, enough with some laughter to reduce fatigue.

“Laughter is even better. People should laugh at least six minutes each day. This method also needs to be balanced with a healthy lifestyle, enough rest and regular exercise, ” she said.

One more way that is considered important by Nalini is to make me time .

Work Should be important to you, but it is not your whole life . Take annual leave, go on vacation and do anything that can make you happy, ” she said.
