Concern for Lombok Earthquake, Representatives of BEM UNAIR and Mahagana Head the Disaster Site

UNAIR NEWS – The earthquake happened in the island of Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, seized all the world’s attention. The government, social humanitarian institutions, and many parties work hand in hand in various ways. In response, some representatives of Student Executive Board (BEM), Universitas Airlangga through the Ministry of Community Services along with the Student Disaster Response (Mahagana) went directly to Lombok on Sunday, August 12, 2018.

Maulana Satria Aji, Dian Frisca Setyabudi, Mochamad Ferdyan Nasrullah, Iqbal Adi Kurniawan, Nasrullah Widiantoro Sandi, Palma Krismonita Agustin, Shabri Atha Arfiansyah, Zaidah Thyyibah, Achmad Ali Basri and Hanifah Dwi Safitri, left for Lombok and were ready to perform social activity on disaster site.

Maulana Satria Aji, as Minister of Community Service 2018 explained, the team’s decision to head to the location of the earthquake because they saw the severe trauma of the casualties, the number of casualties, and the severity of the damage. In fact, according to information from volunteers who were already at the location, deep trauma was still felt by the community.

“In addition to distributing aid collected by colleagues from the entire academic community of Universitas Airlangga, our arrival was also to provide assistance in the form of energy and trauma healing for casualties there,” explained the student who is familiarly called Aji.

The journey of fellow volunteers to leave for Lombok was not smoothly. According to him, there were several obstacles such as funds and transportation problem due to aftershocks. However, all of these things can be overcome by the support of all colleagues in the academic community.

Meanwhile, Iqbal Adi Kurniawan who had departed first gave the news that almost all areas of North Lombok were damaged. The economy is totally paralyzed and the hospital cannot work as usual.

“Almost all parts of North Lombok is destroyed. The economy is paralyzed. The hospital cannot work as usual, ” said Iqbal via text message.
