Construction of Multi Level Parking Lot Building Campus B UNAIR Commenced

UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga continuously make improvements for its supporting facilities. This time the problem of lack of parking space for academic community in Campus B will soon be resolved.

UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nasih, SE, MT., Ak., CMA., marked the commencement of Parking Building A Campus B UNAIR on Monday, July 30. It is constructed in the east side of Faculty of Humanities (FIB) and Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), the east side of the Sharia Tower Building. In accordance with the plan, there are ten floors that will accommodate the students and lecturers vehicles in the parking lot.

Director of Facilities and Infrastructure UNAIR Karnaji, S.Sos., M.Si., in his speech said that the building will be built four storeys for phase I. There will be three parking buildings. Its total area reaches 3,664 sq m. It is 112 m long and 32 m wide.

“Each floor will accommodate about 124 cars,” he said in Groundbreaking Ceremony at Campus B UNAIR.

“First floor will be for motorcycles. It can contain about 414 motors, “he added.

Karnaji also stated that the project will finish in late April 2019. Its construction will last for ten months. He also hoped it can be finished on time.

“We hope the last week of April, stage I for the first 4 levels can be completed,” he said.

About the agreement with the contractor, the construction of the multilevel parking building will be done in stages. The budget in the first phase is worth 54 billion. According to him, there are parts that require a lot of money, especially the ground floor.

“This is related to the foundation. So, there will be 812 point poles. Each hole, there are three poles. So, we need a few thousand poles, ” he said.

Karnaji explained, there will be three-part parking building constructed. The current one is building A. Building B will be built in the parking lot of FISIP. Between building A and B, there will be building C as connecting part built over the river.

“The total, buildings A, B, and C require about 300 billion,” he said.

Meanwhile, Prof. Nasih viewed that the construction of the parking building will be a solution and it should be done immediately. The problem of parking in Campus B must be resolved soon. The educational processes, should not be disrupted.

“With limited parking space in the Faculty of Law, when students study on the 2nd floor, horns often heard because of the crowded place, not to mention the high mobilization of students, “he said.

Therefore, Prof. Nasih hoped that the constructed facility can support the activities of students in Campus B. He considered the provision of parking facility should be started at this time.  Prof Nasih also reminded the Directorate of Student Affairs to support it by making rules related to student vehicles.

“It could be planned, S1 and D3 students are not allowed to bring a car,” he said.

Regarding the construction work, Prof. Nasih also reminded the contractor to work together in synergy and work as planned. The effort is the form of seriousness of UNAIR in providing educational facilities for its academic community, to improve the quality.

“Hopefully in the process, this construction will not face any obstacles and it can be finished  in accordance with the agreed plan. We hope that by 2019, student parking areas will be focused in the area around here (new parking area, ed), “he said. (*)
