UNAIR NEWS – The Indonesian economy continues to keep abreast of current developments. Economic history shows that there are various economic dynamics, ranging from the financial crisis, debt needs, policy making, to technological advances that bring their own challenges.
Answering the dynamic, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) held a public lecture titled Indonesian Economic Transformation, Wednesday, October 18. As the speaker, Dra. Eva Kusuma Sundari, MA, M.Dev, a member of Commission III of the House of Representatives. This general lecture discusses the Indonesia’s growing economy to date.
Taking place in Fajar Notonegoro Hall, Vice Dean III FEB, Nisful Laila, SE., M.Com, personally felt proud of Mbak Eva’s presence as alumnus of FEB UNAIR.
“This activity is one form of ‘Alumni Going Home”, an activity that brings alumni to inspire and share,” Nisful said in his speech.
On that occasion, Eva invited participants to form their mindset. There are three forms of mindset, the magical that tends to believe in fate, the naive which is judgmental, and the critical that always looks for coherent cause of a problem.
“If we choose to think naively, then we will only blame the existing conditions. While with critical thinkin, we will know how something happens, ” explained Eva, the alumnus of S-1 Economic Development.
According to the woman born in Nganjuk, October 8, 1965, Indonesia has not been an independent country, despite its high gross domestic product, low debt ratio and high foreign exchange reserves in the last 15 years. This is because of the lack of intensive division of labor, the basic exchange value of developing country with a agricultural base is smaller than the industrialized countries.
“In critical thinking, the cause of self-reliance is external, such as inadequate technology infrastructure, and ownership rights centered on northern countries,” she said.
Not only that, according to Eva, the stability of the country has an influence in improving the economy. The more stable the condition of a country, the better investment climate will grow.
In the future, to anticipate the trend and dynamics of the economy, the House of Representatives strives to continue to be critical and updated . (*)
