UNAIR NEWS – Students of Faculty of Law Universitas Airlangga, members of the Semi-Autonomous Body (BSO) of Airlangga Young Jurist Society (MYMA) once again made achievements at national level. MYMA as BSO focusing on the field of debate often sends its members in various debate competitions, both at regional and national levels. MYMA often gets satisfactory results.
The most recent achievements were made by six students who took part in a competition at University of Surabaya. The national debate competition was titled Ubaya Law Fair 2018 and themed “The Constellation of Laws in Realizing Indonesia Based on Pancasila”. The six students won first place in the event held on November 9-11 2018.
Moreover, in 2018 Ubaya Law Fair, the UNAIR team, Krisna Murti, won the best speaker award.
The six students are Ave Maria (2016), Safira Noor (2016), Krisna Murti (2016), Windy Agustin (2016), Abiyyu Hilmi (2017), and Agung Jaya (2017).
For more than one month, various preparations were made. Starting from studying motions, compiling pros and cons arguments, and undergoing regular training beside attending lectures.
It was a great achievement, since the preliminary round, they have been in a chamber consisting of experienced teams. With hard work and team spirit, the UNAIR delegation finally continued to the semifinals.
In the semifinal round, UNAIR team faced great competitions, debate team from Padjadjaran University Bandung with the motion “Reviving the President’s Humiliation Article”. In the heated debate round, UNAIR defeated the team from Padjadjaran University in Bandung with a very convincing victory point, 4 vs 1.
While in the final round, the UNAIR team had to face the debate team from Maranatha Christian University Bandung with a motion “Deprivation of Criminal Assets in Corruption Crime (Non-convicted Based)”. In the final round, UNAIR team performed well that they won the final round.
On the same day when Ubaya Law Fair was held, a UIN Law Fair was also held in Jakarta, the UNAIR debate team also made the same achievement. First place winner and best speaker. This makes BSO MYMA win two awards at the same time.
Safira as the second speaker in the competition was proud of the achievements made by 2018 UNAIR and Ubaya Law Fair team.
” Alhamdulillah,  we are very happy and a bit surprised. But thanks to our hard work and God’s blessing we were finally able to get 1st place, “Safira said.
Safira continued, she and her team took part in the competition just to do their best. “We only did the best every race and finally got to this stage. Honestly, among us, we have also participated in various competitions and have also lost. But we are still enthusiastic about participating in the competition, “he added.
Safira hoped that victory of her team can inspire other FH students so FH UNAIR will be more successful on national and international levels. (*)
