UNAIR NEWS – May 2, 2018 is celebrated as National Education Day (Hardiknas). In addition to be a contemplation on the struggle in the field of education, it is also a medium of strengthening commitment of all components of education in Indonesia including Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR).
In 2018 National Education Day ceremony, Rector of UNAIR Prof. Dr. H. Mohammad Nasih, SE., MT., Ak, CMA., revealed that education is not just about school. It is not just the process of teaching and learning in the classroom. Moreover, the essence of education is the process of improving oneself and improving the quality of life in all environments and communities.
“There is a lot of media for all of us to keep learning, improving our quality. Learning is not just from books. The environment and everything is a learning material. To be better, including from tools or media-communication medium nowadays, “he said.
Prof. Nasih said that education is often misinterpreted in a narrow sense, referring to narrow activities and indicators.
Meanwhile, for UNAIR, the commemoration of Education Day is interpreted as a commitment strengthening embodied in the vision of the university. Prof. Nasih said, there are three priority programs of UNAIR education that are continuously encouraged. In its responsibility of advancing the nation through higher education, an effort to improve the quality of education is realized in the target of UNAIR in 2020.
“We want by 2020, UNAIR is included in the top 500 of universities in the world,” he said in front of UNAIR Management building, Campus C, Surabaya.
According to Prof. Nasih, the target in 2020 is aimed at achieving an independent UNAIR, to be independent in all things, to be innovative and to be pioneers especially in the academic field.
It is in accordance to UNAIR’s vision, to be an independent, innovative, leading university at national and international level, to be a pioneer in the development of science, technology, and humanities based on religious morality.
“And of course all of us, especially students, are expected not only to be followers, but be pioneers in the field of science, technology, and humanities, “he said.

Meanwhile, in the ceremony, awards were also given to Satyalencana Karya Satya’s recipient. Prof. Nasih also gave a quiz with prizes to all participants of the ceremony, especially students.
One student was asked to explain the commitment and the three priority programs of the university, including the vision of UNAIR to affirm the commitment and improve education for the academic community. (*)
