UNAIR NEWS – The Student Executive Board (BEM) of Universitas Airlangga held the 2nd Eco-Suara Airlangga consolidation on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at the Shared Lecture Building (GKB), MERR-C Campus. The agenda discussed the optimization efforts to reduce carbon emissions and conserve resources on the campus.

The Eco-Suara Airlangga is an initiative of the Ministry of Environment of BEM UNAIR as an advocative action and educational guide for students, the government, and the community. The consolidation analyzed the Green Campus policy brief. This issue prioritizes environmentally friendly and sustainable practices for universities.

Andrean Marcellino, the Person in Charge of the Eco-Suara Airlangga stated that the result will be handed to the university’s management as a policy brief. In arranging the policy brief, the participants referred to the results of Study IV, which involved the direct participation of policy stakeholders such as the Director of the Directorate of Logistics, Security, and Environment.

“The discussions with the Director of Logistics, Security, and Environment, Mr. Karnaji, have inspired us to prepare the policy brief. He provided us with a lot of insights,” said Andrean.

The consolidation discussed two environmental problems on campus. First, carbon emissions due to campus activities, especially the increasing number of vehicles used by students. Secondly, the waste management. Both of these serious issues require special attention that must be addressed promptly.

Student representatives from various faculties also participated in the consolidation. They raised current issues in their respective faculties. The outcomes become the foundation for creating policies within individual faculties, which will be included in the policy brief submission.

“Our policy brief does not only demand more environmentally-friendly policies but also offers applicable and practical solutions. Students pledge to collaborate with the university in implementing green campus policies,” he said.

The consolidation shows UNAIR students’ action to create a sustainable future, preserve the environment, and make a positive contribution to addressing environmental issues.

“Hopefully, the policymakers will consider the briefs and the demands we made regarding the green campus policy at Universitas Airlangga,” he ended.
