UNAIR NEWS – Ferry Efendi PhD, a lecturer at Faculty of Nursing (FKp) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), has been elected Vice President of the Council of Asian Science Editors (CASE). Ferry will serve from 2024 to 2026. Before his election as Vice President, Ferry was the Chair of the External Relations Committee for CASE from 2022 to 2024.

In his new role, Ferry will collaborate with the President of CASE to achieve the organization’s primary missions. “I will assist and collaborate with the President of CASE on several key focuses and missions,” he stated. These missions include raising the editorial standards of scientific journals, executing educational and training missions, fostering international collaboration, advocating for policy, and promoting diversity and inclusion.

To accomplish these missions, Ferry has developed several special programs. The first program aims to expand membership. Currently, around 50 countries in Asia are represented in CASE, but the majority of members come from countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, Bangladesh, India, Egypt, China, and a few others.

“With the specially designed programs, we hope other countries will also contribute to CASE,” he said.

The second program focuses on developing an online platform to provide resources, tools, and networks for editors and publishers of scientific journals. The third program involves mentoring, where senior scientific journal editors will guide junior editors to improve their quality.

Ferry’s election as Vice President will expand UNAIR’s contributions to international networks, especially in scientific journal publishing. UNAIR’s lecturer and editorial teams can take full advantage of this opportunity.

“Lecturers and editorial teams will benefit from the training programs and workshops organized by CASE. UNAIR can also participate in collaborative projects supported by CASE, increasing opportunities for scientific journal publications,” he explained.

Ferry hopes that his new role will advance scientific journal publishing in Asia and elevate UNAIR’s international reputation. “I hope this role will contribute to the progress of scientific journal publishing in Asia, strengthen professional networks, build a sustainable and inclusive journal publishing environment, and increase UNAIR’s contribution to the international scientific community,” he concluded.
