{"id":131042,"date":"2022-05-11T11:30:07","date_gmt":"2022-05-11T04:30:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/210.57.208.200\/2022\/05\/11\/unair-history-lecturer-explains-the-urgency-of-doctors-movement-in-indonesia\/"},"modified":"2022-05-11T13:23:30","modified_gmt":"2022-05-11T06:23:30","slug":"unair-history-lecturer-explains-the-urgency-of-doctors-movement-in-indonesia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/en\/unair-history-lecturer-explains-the-urgency-of-doctors-movement-in-indonesia\/","title":{"rendered":"UNAIR History lecturer explains the urgency of doctors\u2019 movement in Indonesia"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>UNAIR NEWS<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 A lecturer of the Department of History, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Airlangga (<a href=\"http:\/\/210.57.208.200\">UNAIR<\/a>) Dr Sarkawi B Husain SS MHum was a speaker in an online discussion entitled\u00a0\u201cThe History of the Doctors\u2019 Movement in Indonesia<em>.\u201d\u00a0<\/em>The discussion was held by the Development Study Club on Tuesday, May 10, 2022.<\/p>\n\n<p>The discussion also presented Hans Pols, a professor at the University of Sydney and author of <em>Merawat Bangsa: Sejarah Pergerakan Para Dokter Indonesia<\/em> (Caring for the Nation: The History of the Indonesian Doctors\u2019 Movement) published by Kompas in 2018.<\/p>\n\n<p>On that occasion, Sarkawi conveyed an important notion contained in Hans Pols\u2019 book. According to him, the book is able to explain the unique position of doctors so that they can diagnose the pathology of colonialism.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cThey are able to identify the nature and pressures inherent in the process of social revolution. Doctors are also able to prescribe terrabiotic interventions against social rules that are not right,\u201d he explained. <\/p>\n\n<p>Furthermore, he explained that medical science gave birth to a new understanding among the natives (Bumiputeras). It is marked by the open mind of the native people, who have begun to open broad insights, discourses, and awareness of colonial and non-colonial nations.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cProfessor Hans not only presents data on the important role of Indonesian doctors but also breaks the fact that doctors in the colonial era became a tool of colonialism,\u201d said Sarkawi.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cOn the contrary, medical science has inspired Indonesian doctors to criticize the colonial government because of the high prevalence of indigenous diseases and inadequate colonial treatment standards,\u201d he concluded.
