UNAIR NEWS<\/strong> \u2013 Justin Bieber has shared a shocking news on his social media. The Canadian superstar revealed that he was suffering from Ramsay Hunt Syndrome.<\/p>\n\n

Justin shared the news in a 2-minute video on his Instagram account on Friday, June 10, 2022. He said that the syndrome affects the nerves in his ear and face, as the syndrome paralyzed the right side of his face.<\/p>\n\n

Responding to the matter, lecturer of UNAIR Faculty of Medicine, Martha Kurnia Kusumawardani dr SpKFR(K) shared her thoughts. Ramsay Hunt Syndrome is a collection of symptoms caused by a facial nerve disorder around the ear that was caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox or shingles (herpes zoster).<\/p>\n\n

\u201cThe main symptoms are facial droop, eyes and mouth are difficult to close,\u201d said dr. Martha on Monday, June 13, 2022.<\/p>\n\n

Ramsay Hunt syndrome symptoms<\/p>\n\n

Regarding the facial droop, Doctor Martha said that patients may exhibit abrupt symptoms. In most cases, they just found out when they were drinking, the water escaped from the corner of their mouth.<\/p>\n\n

\u201cBesides, they also have ringing ears, loss of taste, eyes, drooling, and intense ear pain,\u201d the medical staff of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of UNAIR Faculty of Medicine added.<\/p>\n\n

Ramsay Hunt syndrome treatment<\/p>\n\n

The doctor, who is also the Head of UNAIR Center for Communications & Public Information, said that Ramsay Hunt syndrome can be treated to relieve the symptoms. Medications may include anti-inflammatory drugs and vitamins. In addition, patients will be advised to undergo therapies with physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, such as modalities and facial exercise therapies.<\/p>\n\n

\u201cModalities is a physical therapy using electrical stimulation and deep heating devices. The purpose is to reduce the pain, and inflammation, and improve the strength of facial muscle,\u201d said dr. Martha.<\/p>\n\n
