UNAIR NEWS<\/strong> \u2013 Continuously innovating, Universitas Airlangga<\/a> team from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPK) and School of Health Science and Natural Science (SIKIA) created a starfish extract-based deodorant spray. The \u2018Patrick Spray\u2019 innovation got them Student Creativity Week (PKM) 2022 funding from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of Indonesia.<\/p>\n\n

The team consists of five students, Mesy Indriani, Lalu Aldy Kurnia Aji, Adhi Candra Mukti, Putri Salma Nabila, and Isac Muhamad Kahlil Gibran. The team leader, Mesy, said that basically, the Patrick Spray concept is similar to deodorant in general. However, they used the safest ingredient for human skin, the starfish extract.<\/p>\n\n

According to Mesy and the team, the starfish has the potential to be used as a deodorant spray as it contains flavonoids as an antibacterial. It becomes the main ingredient of Patrick Spray.<\/p>\n\n

The flavonoids in starfish, Mesy continued, are scientifically proven to be safe for human skin in Ph 5 to 6. Furthermore, Indonesia is wealthy in natural resources. Deodorant spray production is a form of utilizing natural resources.<\/p>\n\n

In the production, she stated that one starfish could produce five to six milliliters of flavonoids. At first, the starfish will be boiled and distilled to produce a liquid containing flavonoids and other substances. The liquid will be further extracted several times until the flavonoids remain.<\/p>\n\n

She explained that the product contains side effects. Therefore, the team produces several Patrick Spray variants according to consumers\u2019 skin needs. These features encourage them to expect that Patrick Spray will be able to compete with other popular brands.<\/p>\n\n

\u201cHopefully, this product can compete with other reputable deodorant brands,\u201d Mesy hoped.<\/p>\n\n

They also hope that the product will take them to the National Student Science Week (PIMNAS). Currently, they have finalized the product design and focus on sales and marketing through the @patrickspray.deodorant Instagram account.<\/p>\n\n
