{"id":211365,"date":"2023-06-13T17:15:31","date_gmt":"2023-06-13T10:15:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/supporting-sdg-3-and-6-fkm-unair-receives-mayor-of-surabaya-award\/"},"modified":"2023-07-20T09:50:47","modified_gmt":"2023-07-20T02:50:47","slug":"supporting-sdg-3-and-6-fkm-unair-receives-mayor-of-surabaya-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/en\/supporting-sdg-3-and-6-fkm-unair-receives-mayor-of-surabaya-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Supporting SDG 3 and 6, FKM UNAIR receives Mayor of Surabaya Award"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>UNAIR NEWS \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0In commemorating Surabaya City Anniversary on May 31, 2023, Faculty of Public Health (\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fkm.unair.ac.id\/\">FKM<\/a>\u00a0) <a href=\"http:\/\/unair.ac.id\">Universitas Airlangga<\/a> (UNAIR) received an award from the Mayor of Surabaya.\u00a0The award was given for FKM\u2019s contribution to eliminating\u00a0Open Defecation Free\u00a0(ODF) or Stopping Open Defecation in Surabaya.<\/p>\n\n<p>FKM has a collaboration with Wahana Visi Indonesia, whose one of its programs to improve public health status.\u00a0The real proof is realizing environmental health by helping the city of Surabaya by reducing\u00a0<em>Open Defecation Free<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cFKM also plays a role in conducting\u00a0research\u00a0to support the realization of Open Defecation Free.\u00a0And the research results\u00a0will help the government design policies and run the\u00a0Open Defecation Free\u00a0program,\u201d said Dr. Santi Martini dr. M Kes as the Dean of FKM UNAIR.<\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>In line with SDGs<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n<p>This achievement also aligns with the application of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being and Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation. With more than a thousand beneficiaries, FKM UNAIR plays an essential role in planning various activities fulfilling the 5 pillars of environmental health.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cOf course with providing education regarding the dangers of open defecation. By providing education related to washing hands with soap, waste management, liquid waste, and defecation,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Construction of communal toilets<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n<p>Through FKM UNAIR\u2019s vision to directly impact society, the community has a place to defecate with specifications following the environmental health standards, such as using a second reservoir as a basin of the waste flow.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cThe community can continue to use healthy latrines built by the government or in cooperation with NGOs,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n<p>The communal toilets in various corners of the area certainly have a direct impact on reducing open defecation, which leads to various infectious diseases in the area. Utilizing communal toilets will create communal and vertical behavior to eliminate open defecation. <\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cThis success is marked by no more people defecating into rivers or on the ground. Followed by the decrease in cases of typhus and diarrhea from the local Puskesmas monitoring, \u201c she said.<\/p>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Advanced waste management<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n<p>Not only focused on promoting\u00a0defecation-free\u00a0efforts.\u00a0UNAIR FKM program also presents a complex environmental health impact, apart from the Surabaya Mayor\u2019s award, with the creation of sustainable household waste management.<\/p>\n\n<p>The implementation of\u00a0Open Defecation Free\u00a0is expected to be sustainable for generations.\u00a0And the next generation can imitate the healthy life implemented in their families.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cThe implementation of\u00a0Open Defecation Free\u00a0is the start of breaking the habit of open defecation around them.\u00a0So that later, the people in their families, young and old, \u00a0will no longer defecate openly,\u201d she concluded.<\/p>\n\n<p>When they have a new family, they can also pass it on through education to their children and grandchildren later.
