Universitas Airlangga<\/a>\u00a0(UNAIR) sent students as delegates to an energy-efficient car competition held by Shell.\u00a0Shell is a British multinational oil and gas company.\u00a0This competition took place on July 4-9, 2023 at the Mandalika International Circuit, Lombok.<\/p><\/p>\n\nThe team called Rasena UNAIR EV Team consists of Beno Abriyan Syah, Rizky Agung Perdana, Andini Dwi Kartika P, Dede Syahputra, Yuriz Fadil Wardana, Jonathan Deven, Adnan Purnama Putra, Fahreza Ismayana, Gilbert Samuel Frederic H, Venny Aminda Tazayul, Fisco Muhammad Firdaus, Thoriq Hady Benson, and Haydar Yahya Alzahroni S and supervisor Dr. Agus Mukhlisin ST MT.<\/p>\n\n
First faculty delegates in competition<\/strong><\/p><\/h4>\n\n
Being the first delegates from a new faculty, they have various obstacles in a competition.\u00a0Beno as the general\u00a0manager<\/em>\u00a0, and his colleagues do not have seniors at the faculty, which could give an insight or evaluation from the previous competition.\u00a0However, this team remains competitive and strives to make their alma mater proud.\u00a0<\/p><\/p>\n\n
\u201cWe feel very happy to take part in this competition.\u00a0Because it\u2019s the first time for us to participate in this competition, so to pass in the first stage or\u00a0the\u00a0technical inspection\u00a0is an achievement and an honor for a few months of hard work,\u201d said Beno.<\/p><\/p>\n\n
The competition is the most efficient car competition.\u00a0Each team has to race their car in several round laps to prove it.\u00a0Furthermore, car feasibility and safety must be ensured before the race.\u00a0<\/p><\/p>\n\n

In this competition, there were three stages that the Rasena team had to go through.\u00a0The first is team registration, team name, car name, design, and material.\u00a0Then the second phase is making the car,\u00a0its electrical\u00a0and\u00a0mechanical\u00a0documents.\u00a0And the third\u00a0is the shipping\u00a0and the team\u2019s departure to the competition venue on the circuit.<\/p><\/p>\n\n
\u201cDuring the registration process, we must also send materials for the car we are designing.\u00a0Then the driving fuel specifically, and others.\u00a0Then, we will proceed to the most thrilling stage, the race,\u201d he continued.<\/p><\/p>\n\n
Rasena Team faces various obstacles\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><\/h4>\n\nEven though he had prepared everything thoroughly, Rasena still encountered internal and external obstacles. Beno said that during the due diligence and safety tests, they were constrained by unsuitable tire parts, so they had to find and replace tires in a short time.<\/p>\n\n
\u201c<\/em>At that time, it often rained in Mandalika, and because we used racing\u00a0tires,\u00a0we replaced them so that there was no slippage which prevented our team from\u00a0racing.\u00a0So we have to buy and replace the four tires to qualify,\u201d explained Beno.<\/p><\/p>\n\n
The second obstacle occurred in the car\u2019s wipers which did not wipe the water off the glass. Apart from that, their\u00a0safety seat belts\u00a0did not have\u00a0adjustments, so they had to find the parts around Lombok.<\/p><\/p>\n\n
\u201cAt that time, the committee also asked for an adjustment, so we bought an ordinary\u00a0safety seat belt\u00a0and then applying it to\u00a0the seat belt,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he said.<\/p><\/p>\n\n
Even during the race, this team also experienced problems with the transmission and\u00a0controller.\u00a0During racing, their car\u00a0overheats, and the system shuts down, so it has to be towed to be repaired.<\/p><\/p>\n\n
Enthusiasm to join competition<\/strong><\/p><\/h4>\n\nDespite the result, the car designed by the Rasena team is a great start for the learning and development of the next delegates. For the competition, they designed and conceptualized the car from scratch.<\/p>\n\n
\u201cAll manufacturing processes are started from scratch by students without involving any assistance.\u00a0For example,\u00a0we make\u00a0the controller ourselves, starting from\u00a0the body, engine, electrical system, and others,\u201d he explained.\u00a0<\/p><\/p>\n\n
So hopefully, through the competition experience, Rasena\u2019s team can evaluate all the obstacles that hinder their team.\u00a0And, they will send this car back in a more\u00a0proper\u00a0condition at the next race.<\/p><\/p>\n\n
\u201cWe learned a lot from this competition and will evaluate this car optimally.\u00a0For example, we will replace the tires with the previous tires and optimize the\u00a0controller.\u00a0Then we will make a new car body by evaluating the previous body so that it remains an energy-efficient car,\u201d he concluded.<\/p><\/p>\n\n
