UNAIR NEWS<\/strong> \u2013 <\/span>DreamStudy<\/span> held a National Webinar <\/span>on <\/span>“Strategies for <\/span>Successful <\/span>IISMA 2024 Scholarship<\/span> Application<\/span>“<\/span> on Sunday<\/span>, Feb 4, 2024.<\/span> The event featured <\/span>Wahidah<\/span> Mevi<\/span> Nihayah<\/span>, <\/span>a<\/span> Communication<\/span>s <\/span>student and Co-Student representative of IISMA (Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards) <\/span>Palacky<\/span> 2022 Awardees, as the speaker.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

During her presentation, <\/span>Mevi<\/span> shared her experience of studying at <\/span>Palacky<\/span> University Olomouc, Czech Republic. <\/span>Mevi<\/span> also discussed topics related to the selection process and provided useful tips & tricks to be applied when applying for IISMA.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Advantages and <\/span>c<\/span>hallenges<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n

Mevi<\/span> has gained<\/span> many advantages by <\/span>participating<\/span> in IISMA<\/span>, including <\/span>the opportunity to build international relationships with friends from various parts of the world. Furthermore, she felt that her cultural intelligence skills improved during IISMA because she met people with <\/span>different backgrounds<\/span> living in a country with unfamiliar culture.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

“IISMA allows us to take courses that are not directly related to our study programs. In the end, I am very grateful because the knowledge in other disciplines strengthened and complemented what I had learned in Communication Science at UNAIR,” she expressed. <\/p>\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n

Mevi<\/span> also <\/span>faced some<\/span> challenges during IISMA. The most significant challenge she felt was the <\/span>dissimilar<\/span> weather between the Czech Republic and Indonesia, especially Surabaya. Additionally, the walking culture and milder food were also obstacles for her.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

“IISMA is not just all about rainbows. Besides the advantages I felt, there are certainly challenges as well. However, gradually I was able to adapt to these differences,” she explained.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Tips <\/span>before <\/span>writing<\/span> an essay<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n

For her, the essay is one of the crucial documents for IISMA because assessors can evaluate applicants through the essay. Therefore, <\/span>Mevi<\/span> shared some tips that students can do before <\/span>writing<\/span> an essay. The first tip <\/span>Mevi<\/span> mentioned is to find a unique and genuine purpose.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

“Find something that can represent you and your uniqueness. Because clich\u00e9 reasons have already been expressed by thousands of applicants, so it <\/span>doesn’t<\/span> make you <\/span>outstanding<\/span>,” <\/span>Mevi<\/span> said.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

The second tip is to <\/span>determine<\/span> the personal brand you want to <\/span>represent<\/span> in the essay. <\/span>Mevi<\/span> revealed that to <\/span>determine<\/span> a personal brand, she conducted self-reflection with three aspects. These aspects include past experiences, current skills, and aspirations.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

“Then find a common thread to connect the three aspects and your personal brand <\/span>to apply<\/span> for IISMA and the selection of the campus and courses. My last tip is to conduct in-depth research on the campus and courses you choose,” she concluded.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n
