UNAIR NEWS<\/strong> \u2013 Students of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) have made another proudest achievement on the international stage. With their idea, Oceanbone, UNAIR students have won in the 2024 World Young Inventors Exhibition (WYIE) competition. The event organized by the Malaysian Invention and Design Society (MINDS) was held in Kuala Lumpur Convention Center from Thursday, May 16, 2024, to Saturday, May 18, 2024.<\/p>\n\n

The students were Anis Widya Astuti as the team leader, Cahyan Irfan Syach, Muhammad Wisnu Maulana, Gabriel Letare Napitupulu, Gregorius Steven Haryanto (FTMM); Tsabita Arinal Haq (FST); and Fransiska Novalina Marbun (FPK).<\/p>\n\n

The seven students in Oceanbone team managed to bring home the gold award after competing with 700 teams from 15 countries, including China, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Oman, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Australia, Qatar, Vietnam, UAE, United States and Canada.<\/p>\n\n

\u201cThis event aims to celebrate the creativity and intelligence of youth and provide innovative solutions to global challenges. So, no wonder participants come from various countries,\u201d explained Anis.<\/p>\n\n

Starting from PKM<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n

To UNAIR NEWS, Anis explained that her team decided to participate to ensure continuation of innovation they developed for the National Scientific Week (PIMNAS).<\/p>\n\n

“We think WYIE is the right competition because it is attended by many exhibitors, researchers and investors who can help our innovation continue to develop. This competition also provides us the opportunity to collaborate with other teams from around the world, learn from their ideas, and receive valuable feedback from professionals in the industry and academia,” said Anis.<\/p>\n\n

The Oceanbone team was accompanied by Rizki Putra Prastio S Si M T, a lecturer from the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Engineering study program at FTMM. He has supervised the team since Student Creativity Program (PKM).<\/p>\n\n

About Oceanbone<\/h4>\n\n

Oceanbone is both the name of the team and the innovation. Oceanbone, according to Anis, is an advanced technology designed to automatically detect and collect plastic waste in the ocean. This device uses beach and sea cleaning robots that can operate in areas difficult to reach.<\/p>\n\n

The detection system in Oceanbone integrates artificial intelligence (AI) with the Internet of Things (IoT). So, Oceanbone can be an innovative solution for maintaining sustainable marine ecosystems.<\/p>\n\n

This robot uses solar panels for energy consumption so it doesn’t cause emissions. “The plastic waste detection system that we use is a hyperspectral imaging system that collects and processes information based on the electromagnetic spectrum,” she explained.<\/p>\n\n

Oceanbone can also process plastic waste through an Intermediate Treatment Facility (ITF) system to generate electricity to meet the electrical needs of the surrounding community. According to Anis, the Oceanbone concept also supports sustainable development in the 14th SDGS in the form of blue economy-based innovation which has a systemic impact in terms of the environment, economy, social and renewable energy.<\/p>\n\n

The Oceanbone team’s achievement brings pride and satisfaction as they have created a beneficial solution for the environmental issue. The team hoped their experience could inspire other students to remain active in scientific activities and innovate. The Oceanbone team also encouraged students to participate in competitions to create positive changes for society through creative ideas and innovative solutions.<\/p>\n\n
