The initiative was held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, in Karangploso Hamlet, Ngerong Village, Gempol District, Pasuruan Regency.<\/p>\n\n<p>Through the development of Nano Chitosan Fertilizer derived from waste scales of tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus), the team offered an innovative and sustainable solution for managing rice pests and improving crop yields.<\/p>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-656f710c0744d27f230c36c6c8addb00\"><strong>Fish waste transformed into rice pest control solution<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n<p>Nano Chitosan Fertilizer is produced from discarded scales of tilapia and snapper, materials often considered valueless. The fertilizer enhances plant resistance and reduces the need for chemical pesticides.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cThis innovation not only curbs pollution from fishery waste but also promotes soil health and preserves agricultural ecosystems,\u201d said Reza Alifah Azzahra, the project coordinator.<\/p>\n\n<p>The nano-scale particles allow for efficient nutrient absorption and boost the plant\u2019s immune system\u2014all without relying on harmful chemical agents.<\/p>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-b751888df81a07fd6a728db4bfa82169\"><strong>Learning Green Technology in the field<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Liputan-33-1024x768.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-359058\" srcset=\"https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Liputan-33-1024x768.webp 1024w, https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Liputan-33-300x225.webp 300w, https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Liputan-33-768x576.webp 768w, https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Liputan-33-1536x1152.webp 1536w, https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Liputan-33-2048x1536.webp 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">UNAIR FTMM BEM\u2019s Nano Fertilizer Innovation for Ngerong Village (Photo: By courtesy)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>During the event, the team delivered an in-depth presentation on Nano Chitosan Fertilizer, covering its production process, dosage recommendations, and its effectiveness in improving crop resilience naturally.<\/p>\n\n<p>Residents of Ngerong Village\u2014including local farmers, village officials, and youth groups\u2014actively engaged in the discussion, asking questions and sharing farming experiences. To reinforce their understanding, the team held a live field demonstration, allowing villagers to observe the fertilizer application process firsthand.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cThe community was highly receptive to this technology. There is even talk of launching independent nano fertilizer production at the village level,\u201d said Arya Rachman, Head of ARGON\u2019s Biotech Department.<\/p>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-fb4903e563c28ba83b9424cd3c963c18\"><strong>Innovative Nano Fertilizer production<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n<p>The fertilizer production begins with extracting chitosan from fish scales through deproteinization, demineralization, and deacetylation processes. The extracted chitosan is then dissolved in acetic acid and combined with sodium tripolyphosphate (TPP) to form nano particles. The resulting mixture becomes an eco-friendly liquid fertilizer, ready for agricultural use.<\/p>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-12f3feca058454609b7cdc7c2cb1d899\"><strong>Real impact and future goals<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n<p>The AGRO NANOSHIELD program equipped local residents with knowledge on sustainable agriculture and highlighted the economic potential of fishery waste utilization. The initiative aligns with several UN Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 15 (Life on Land).<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cThis spirit of collaboration is expected to inspire wider adoption of green technologies across other rural communities,\u201d said Azzahra.
