UNAIR NEWS<\/strong> \u2013 The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR<\/a>) has strengthened its international ties with the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. This renewed partnership was advanced through a strategic meeting held on Thursday (October 29, 2025), in Meeting Room 208 at the FST Building, MERR-C Campus.<\/p>\n\n

The meeting provided a platform to exchange insights on academic programs, institutional profiles, and comparative research and community engagement initiatives. The goal was to identify areas where FST UNAIR and KTH could develop meaningful and mutually beneficial collaborations.<\/p>\n\n

Collaboration framework<\/h5>\n\n

Representing UNAIR were Prof. Dr. Fatmawati, SSi, MSi, Vice Dean III of FST; Dr. Nur Indradewi Oktavitri, ST, MT, PhD, Coordinator of the Environmental Engineering Study Program; along with faculty members including Prof. Mochamad Zakki Fahmi, SSi, MSi, PhD, and Danar Arifka Rahman, ST, MT. The session opened with a presentation from Inten Firdhausi Wardhani, ST, MSc, who highlighted the faculty\u2019s profile, flagship initiatives, and international engagements for both students and lecturers.<\/p>\n\n

\u201cAt the faculty level, FST offers numerous research schemes accessible to students and partner institutions abroad. We also collaborate with external organizations on research grants. The same applies to our community service programs. Several international projects have already been carried out, including those with Malaysia. We hope to develop similar partnerships with KTH,\u201d Wardhani noted.<\/p>\n

From the KTH side, Prof. Dr. Zeev Bohbot and Prof. Dr. Karin Edvardsson Bjomberg outlined their departmental structure and academic offerings, while also identifying subject areas that align with those in FST UNAIR.<\/p>\n\n

\u201cA notable difference may be the scale of community service activities. In Sweden, we have a framework similar to Indonesia\u2019s Tri Dharma, called the Three Missions, which include education, research, and social contribution. However, we tend to emphasize disseminating research through newspaper articles or hosting public lectures,\u201d Prof. Bjomberg explained.<\/p>\n\n

The discussion later focused on complementary opportunities for collaboration, particularly in joint research initiatives, student programming, and cross-border community engagement. Both institutions also explored options for sustained cooperation beyond geographical constraints, such as virtual guest lectures.<\/p>\n\n
