UNAIR NEWS<\/strong> \u2013 A proud achievement was earned by a student of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR<\/a>). Sanda Insania Dewanty, a Statistics major from the Faculty of Science and Technology, won 2nd Place in the infographic competition at the \u201cStatistics Fair 2025.\u201d The event was organized by the University of Bengkulu in celebration of National Statistics Day.<\/p>\n\n

The competition was held online, with winners announced on September 27, 2025. Dewanty shared that she never expected her passion for data and visual design would lead to such a meaningful experience.<\/p>\n\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t enter the competition just to win. I wanted to challenge myself and see how effectively I could convey messages through data,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n

Exploring marine energy theme<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n

In the competition, Dewanty presented an infographic titled \u201cOTEC: Diving into tropical seas toward net zero emissions.\u201d The piece highlights Indonesia\u2019s vast potential for clean energy production through Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC). This technology harnesses the temperature difference between warm surface water and cold deep-sea water to generate sustainable, environmentally friendly electricity.<\/p>\n\n

Through her work, Dewanty sought to illustrate how Indonesia can reduce its dependence on fossil fuels while supporting national Net Zero Emission goals and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and Goal 13 (Climate Action).<\/p>\n\n

The infographic also includes data on national carbon emissions, renewable energy targets, and the potential of marine energy across Indonesian waters. Her work encourages the public to view the ocean not only as a natural resource, but also as a critical pathway toward Indonesia\u2019s clean energy future.<\/p>\n\n

Learn from process and challenges<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n

Behind the polished final product, Dewanty acknowledged she encountered multiple challenges, from determining the layout and narrative flow, selecting color schemes, and navigating limited data availability, to managing her time amid academic responsibilities.<\/p>\n\n

\u201cThe process wasn\u2019t always easy. But those challenges taught me patience, attention to detail, and better time management,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n

For her, the achievement represents more than a competition win, it marks a valuable learning experience.<\/p>\n\n

\u201cI hope this inspires others to try new things and develop their creative ideas,\u201d she concluded.<\/p>\n\n
