{"id":411048,"date":"2026-08-02T08:12:13","date_gmt":"2026-08-02T01:12:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/bbk-8-unair-students-organize-basic-life-support-education\/"},"modified":"2026-09-09T16:59:36","modified_gmt":"2026-09-09T09:59:36","slug":"bbk-8-unair-students-organize-basic-life-support-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/en\/bbk-8-unair-students-organize-basic-life-support-education\/","title":{"rendered":"BBK 8 UNAIR students organize Basic Life Support education"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>UNAIR NEWS<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 Learning with the Community (BBK) 8 Universitas Airlangga (<a href=\"https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/en\/\">UNAIR<\/a>) organized an education session on Basic Life Support (BLS) for SMK Al Hadad students at Saringembat Village, Singgahan Subdistrict, Tuban Regency on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. As one of the flagship programs resulting from a collaboration between the fields of education and health, this interdisciplinary collaboration is designed not only to enhance students\u2019 knowledge, but also to build their preparedness in dealing with emergency situations. This event also aimed to improve students\u2019 basic knowledge and skills in providing first aid when faced with emergencies such as fainting, cardiac arrest, and choking.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Emergencies can happen anytime and anywhere. Unfortunately, many people are still unaware of the proper first aid procedures and therefore, they often hesitate to offer help. Inspired by this condition, BBK 8 UNAIR students organized an awareness campaign that not only focused on theoretical instruction but also hands-on practical experience to better prepare participants in facing real situations.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This program was born out of the belief that life-saving skills are an essential foundation that should be introduced as early as school age. Therefore, BBK 8 UNIAR students have developed a learning method that combines instruction, hands-on practice, simulation, and interactive discussions so that the participants will not only understand the theory but are also able to apply first aid procedures correctly during an emergency.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Interactive simulation boosts participants confidence<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the activity, participants gained understanding about the first step they should take when encountering an unconscious person, starting from ensuring the safety of the location, checking patient\u2019s response, asking for professional help, and recognizing cardiac arrest conditions that require an immediate action. Additionally, participants were taught proper first aid techniques for choking victims in accordance with standard procedures, thereby minimizing the risk of more serious consequences before medical help arrives.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the presentation of the material, the activity continued with a hands-on practice and simulation session of Basic Life Support. During this session, the students directly practiced first aid techniques in helping unconscious people, cardiac arrest, and choking with the guidance of BBK 8 UNAIR students. The simulations were designed to resemble situations that might be encountered in everyday life so that participants are able to understand the treatment process in a more realistic context.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The awareness campaign was interactive, featuring a Q &amp; A session and direct simulation practice guided by BBK 8 students. The participants were actively asking questions and willing to try the Basic Life Support activity. This enthusiasm demonstrates how high the participants\u2019 engagement on the presented material and also reflects the increase of awareness on the importance of first aid procedures skills.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the participants, Risky, admitted that this activity has given new knowledge that he hasn\u2019t got before.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAt first, I thought the first aid procedures can only be done by healthcare workers. After attending this awareness campaign, I now understand that there are some basic procedures that can be done by the public before medical help arrives. I find this knowledge quite useful and hopefully one day I would be able to apply it when needed,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Therefore, BBK 8 UNAIR students hope that through this activity, SMK Al Hadad students will not only understand the concept of Basic Life Support theoretically, but also have the courage and readiness to provide first aid procedures correctly before medical help arrives. Hopefully this skills can be the foundation that can be applied in real-life situations and contribute to build a school environment that is better prepared for emergencies.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This activity also supported Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievements, SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being which focused on efforts to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all people at all ages and SDG 4: Quality Education through the provision of practical, life-skills-based learning.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Author:  M.
