UNAIR NEWS \u2013 <\/b>Universitas Airlangga <\/span>(UNAIR)<\/span><\/a> has returned to the global scientific stage after 11 of its researchers from various academic fields were ranked in the Top 2% of the world’s scientists. The inclusion of these academics is clear evidence that university research is no longer focused merely on the quantity of publications but rather on quality and tangible impact on society.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Head of the Institute for Journal Development, Publication, and Intellectual Property Rights (LPJPHKI), Prof Ferry Efendi SKep Ns MSc PhD, emphasized that this achievement is the sweet reward of consistent collective effort. According to him, the list of names included in the press release does not represent individual achievements alone.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cThis is not a personal achievement, but rather the result of the efforts of many people. Our research team includes undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students, as well as faculty colleagues, partners at community health centers and hospitals, nurses in the field, and collaborators from both within and outside the country,\u201d said Prof Efendi.<\/p>\n\n

Research culture grows across all lines<\/h5>\n\n

A ranking compiled by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier measures the extent to which a researcher’s scientific works are cited and influence the development of science at the global level. Notably, 11 UNAIR scientists who made it into the list come from very diverse faculties. Starting from medicine, public health, nursing, economics, to veterinary medicine.<\/p>\n\n

Diversity of backgrounds shows that the research ecosystem at UNAIR is growing healthily and evenly across all faculties, without being centralised in just one field. “This means that research at UNAIR is flourishing in many faculties and its presence is already recognised worldwide,” he explained.<\/p>\n\n

Focus on quality, integrity and downstreaming<\/h5>\n\n

As an institution that oversees publications and intellectual property within the university environment, LPJPHKI considers this international recognition as a reminder to continue maintaining research quality standards. Prof Efendi emphasised the importance of maintaining academic integrity, including a firm stance against predatory journal practices and publication ethics violations.<\/p>\n\n

Furthermore, he encouraged researchers to ensure that their findings do not simply remain on paper or exist merely to chase citation counts. An ideal research project must progress to the commercialization and downstream stages, whether through patents, innovative products, or public policy recommendations.<\/p>\n\n

“For ourselves, this achievement actually gives us a responsibility to continue maintaining quality, upholding integrity, and ensuring that the research produced truly brings real benefits to society,” he concluded.<\/p>\n\n
