UNAIR NEWS – The need for blood and humanitarian values have inspired Department of Community Service (Pengmas) of Student Executive Board (BEM) Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) Universitas Airlangga to hold blood donation event on Tuesday, April 19. The activity at South Lobby FST was themed “We Share We Care”.
In the event, Pengmas BEM FST UNAIR cooperated with Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), Volunteer Corps (KSR), Environmental Sensitive Analysis Strategy Study Group (KSSAPL), and Chemistry Student Association (HIMAKI). In addition to increase the availability of blood in PMI, it was also aimed to promote healthy lifestyles through blood donation.
“The ultimate goal, to improve concern to our brothers in need. Also, to provide awareness of blood donation benefits. One of them is to improve the system of blood circulation, “said Diana, the person in charge.
From 07.30 to 10.30, there were 52 FST academicians enthusiastically donated their blood. There were 36 others to conduct health checks provided by PMI.
To be able to donate, there are certain conditions that must be met. Donors should be aged 17 to 60 years, a minimum body weight of 45 kg, hemoglobin level at least 12.5 grams. In addition, normal pulse and blood pressure should be good, not menstruating for women, and not taking medication. And, have no history of severe or contagious diseases.

Blood containing a disease or infected, will immediately be discarded. Based on these requirements, there were 24 FST academicians who could donate their blood.
“By doing a blood donation, I can give my blood to who needs it. Actually blood donation is also beneficial for me. My body becomes healthier as well, ” said Bachtiar, one of the donors from the Department of Chemistry.
“Personally, I really love doing this blood donation. This blood donation is my first, ” he added.
The donors who pass the selection and successfully perform blood donation get a package from PMI and the committee. It is intended as a form of appreciation for their concern to others. (*)
