UNAIR NEWS – The construction of Majapahit special house in the three villages around the site of Majapahit Kingdom is expected to be a new tourism spot in Mojokerto. The three villages are Sentonorejo, Bejijong, and Jati Pasar, in Trowulan, Mojokerto Regency. It is hoped to boost the local economy through creative industry.
Unfortunately, there are no follow-up programs which support the “Majapahit Village” so there is no significant effect to the local economy. Because of this problem, students of FISIP Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has developed an innovation in community service to follow up “Majapahit Village” program through community development workshop.
Leny Yulyaningsih, representing his three partners of their Community Service Student Creativity Program (PKMM), stated that Trowulan has been named as a national cultural heritage. It is based on Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture’s Degree 260/M/2013 on the Establishment of Trowulan Geographic Space as National Cultural Heritage. It is aimed to support the preservation of The Spirit Of Majapahit in Trowulan.
”From this condition, we decided to hold a community service in the Majapahit Village,” said Leny, representing the other PKMM team members Piping Tri Wahyuni, Dian Rizkita Puspitasari, and Dwi Viviani. Four of them are FISIP UNAIR students.
Their PKMM proposal received funding from Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) in 2016. Their proposal was titled “MERICA (Majapahit Heritage Education): Majapahit Village Community Development Program as an Effort to Improve the Spirit of Majapahit in Trowulan Mojokerto.”
In the community service, a workshop is held to, first, revive the Majapahit cuisine. Second, to educate the locals on home stay management and then tourism promotional workshop.
To enliven the cuisine of Majapahit Era which served barb fish, the four students in the workshop trained the locals to wash the fish hygienically and how to serve and keep the cooked dish.
”The barb fish dish then covered so it is not contaminate with bacteria and or other animals,” said Dian Rizkita Puspitasari, the head of the PKMM team.
Home Stay management training educated the locals on how to give greetings, introduction to guest, carrying the guest stuff, and 3-S campaign (Senyum, Sapa and Salam). ”Made an apology to make polite request, receive complaint well and be responsive to handle the complaint,” added Dian.
The training on tourism promotion was done by website, name cards, brochures used for the local and foreign tourists. The community service participants are given brochures for their homestay. They can insert their contact numbers so if there are tourists who need a home stay, they can head to the Majapahit Village. (*)
