UNAIR NEWS – Not all employees are ready for retirement. But there are also some people who openly face their retirement and make some preparations. Their reluctance to face retirement are caused by various factors such as fear of having less income and also being idle as they have not thought of any plans to spend their retirement age.
To support its future retirees, UNAIR Directorate of Human Resources, held a briefing session for 42 employees to be retired in 2017. It will be held for two days on March 15-16 in MIC Transformer, Batu, Malang.
“Most people feel reluctant to go into retirement as they believe that their power and mind will be no longer used. Therefore, we have to prepare the mental aspect, to get them ready,” said Dr. Purnawan Basundoro, S.S., M.Hum., as the director of UNAIR Directorate of Human Resources.
In the briefing, the participants were given motivation and materials on entrepreneurship. For two days they were given insights on entrepreneurship opportunity and practical examples of starting a business. Participants were given opportunities to practice, see the production and distribution of entrepreneurship products of MIC Transformer.
“Entrepreneurship training was given so they can get more income if they apply the knowledge. At least if it is practiced and worked, they will get income which covers their need in retirement. I wish that from here they will be more productive and get more income from when they are in UNAIR,” said the lecturer from Department of History.
The event which prepared the mental to face retirement was designed to be interactive so the participants could ask freely and share their opinions.
“I had a dream of having an eatery or a diner as I love cooking and my cooking is quite popular among students. I want to start an establishment in my place on Jl. Tidar, Surabaya,” said Margiastuti, an employee who has served for FKG UNAIR clinic for 29 years.
Tarwi, another participant who has served at Veterinary Clinic FKH UNAIR said that wife’s support is really needed to start a business.
“A wife, especially, must support so the business can run well. In my retirement, I want to go home to Jombang. I want to start my own tempe production, as I had an experience on it with my sister,” said Tarwi.
With the event, Purnawan hoped that the participants will be ready for the retirement with plans to be realized later. Best for them to start their business now. He wanted the retirees can still live prosperously.
Beside this event, Purnawan also wanted to invite previous UNAIR retirees.
“I hoped after retirement, their connection to UNAIR will not be cut off completely. In the future we will initiate meetings for retirees. So, there is always ties with UNAIR and they feel rewarded not forgotten. However, their experience is still needed,” said Purnawan.
Purnawan also had a plan to establish an association of UNAIR retirees. It is to make them feel interactions and ties with UNAIR. (*)
