UNAIR NEWS – One of the academicians of Faculty of Law Dwi Rahayu Kristianti, SH, MA receiving UN invitation in the framework of “UN Human Rights Mechanisms” training on May 1-5. The event, attended by several overseas academicians, was organized by the Norwegian Center for Human Rights (NCHR) and the Geneva Academy.
Some participating countries are China, Vietnam and Iran. In the event, Yeyen, how she is known, acting as an academician in the field of Constitutional Law as well as representatives of Human Rights Law Studies (HRLS) FH UNAIR . While on May 3, there was a special session to attend the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Indonesia in UN.
For a week there, almost all sessions were held at the Geneva Academy building, and three other sessions in different places. Beside the lecturer of FH UNAIR, there are also lecturers from the Faculty of Brawijaya University (UB), Malang, and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Yogyakarta.
“I presented some topics relating to the implementation of human rights and the mechanism of reporting the overall implementation of human rights in Indonesia ,” said Yeyen to UNAIR NEWS .
In addition, there was a discussion on best practices of human rights reporting mechanism in UN and politicization of reporting mechanism. Informally, Yeyen also proposed cooperation with NCHR and Geneva Academy related to HRLS and FH plan to start a program in Human Rights Law for master degree which is currently limited to material and research modules.
“Based on the observation of the implementation of human rights law enforcement, the reporting mechanism and the establishment of a human rights based law, many lawyers in the field of advocacy and legal drafting are needed to understand human rights,” she said when asked about the urgency of establishing master degree program in Human Rights Law.
Previously, the lecturer of State Science often follow some trainings. However, he admitted that special training with the theme of UN Human Rights Mechanisms was her first. Another agenda that has been waiting for Yeyen is the making of reports to organizers and cooperation related to the making of books together with UB and UGM Faculty of Law. (*)
