FEB Holds Discussion to Formulate Indicator of Prosperity

UNAIR NEWS – To formulate its version of prosperity index, Faculty of Economics and Business  held a  Focus Group Discussion (FGD). In the occasion, Prof. Dr. Bambang Tjahjadi, SE., MBA., Ak with a team from UNAIR explained some components from the assessment and composition criteria.

FGD held on Monday, August 14 in Aula Tirto was one of the efforts to give contribution to the nation’s development. The FGD was also held to support the university towards Top 500 universities in the world.

In its effort towards Top 500 World Universities, UNAIR is also expected to promote competitions between government and non-government organizations. Prof. Bambang explained, it can be done by ranking the organization which later on will get incentives as an award.

“Good governance in the organization, should have excellent competition as well. It is the first steps to achieve focus of the government. It should not stop at regional government, but also to other sectors such as sugar production, processing industry and transportation,” stated Prof. Bambang.

“This effort is in line with the vision of governance and competition center. With good governance, the competitiveness will also be improved,” said the professor trusted as the Head of Governance and Competition FEB UNAIR.

This FGD was attended by representatives of regional government, provincial government, media and academicians.  After the FGD, it will be started this year to achieve the main target of regional government. The stakeholders involved for this program are members of the community, regents and other officials. The general indicators cover economy, health, education and other sectors.

Prof. Bambang added that ranking system like this is also applied by National University of Singapore (NUS). But this ranking system will be more objective and comprehensive as it covers all regencies and cities. It will also use primary and secondary data of the micro data such as from SUSENAS.

“There will be ranking system in each region and it can be implemented in the programs appropriate with the prosperity indicator. It will also stimulate the government to innovate,” he added. (*)
