UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Medicine Universitas Airlangga has made another contribution by graduating new medical specialists. This time, there were 86 specialists in the 21st inauguration by the Dean FK UNAIR, Prof. Dr. Soetojo, dr, Sp.U (K).
The ceremony of the medical specialist inauguration took place solemnly in the Hall of FK UNAIR, Wednesday, July 19. Some of the specialists were listed as outstanding specialist program graduates.
Among the specialists, there were some who have won a number of scientific national and international poster competition. In fact, many of them have managed board examinations at national level.
Since 2002, as the second oldest medical education institution in Indonesia, FK UNAIR has inaugurated 3,045 specialists. However, there is still a problem of uneven distribution of doctors. They do not perform in the peripheral or remote areas.
In this occasion, the Dean of FK UNAIR Prof. Soetojo encouraged dozens of newly inaugurated specialists willing to work in peripheral areas.
“The data shows in 2015 there were recorded 27 thousand specialists. Unfortunately they are concentrated only in big cities like Jakarta, East Java, Central Java. While in other areas such as Madura, there is still a shortage of specialist doctors. For that problem please respond immediately, ” he said in presence of dozens guests.
To be able to reach peripheral areas, FK UNAIR through alumni UNAIR is even trying to present a floating hospital that is currently in progress of production. As planned, this floating hospital will be inaugurated in August 2017, and is targeted to be able to operate immediately to provide health services to people living in remote areas. (*)
