UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Medicine Universitas Airlangga has held another honorary degree conferment. This time, FK UNAIR through Neurosurgery Department has awarded an honorary degree to Prof. Dr. Med.Christianto B. Lumenta, MD., Ph.D, a world class neurosurgery expert.
In presence of dozens guests, Prof Lumenta delivered his oration titled Residency Training Program in Europe and Indonesia. In Neurosurgery, Prof Lumenta is known as an expert from Jakarta living in Germany. He is the current head of a department in Bogenhausen Academic Teaching Hospital Technical University of Munich, Germany.
In his career, Prof Lumenta has worked for decades in Germany. His medical education was from 1970 to 1976 in the Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, Germany. He then continued to a specialist program from 1980 to 1992 in Neurochirurgische Universitätsklinik Düsseldorf, Germany.
After getting a professorship in 1994, Prof Lumenta has shown his dedication in the field of neurosurgery. Prof Lumenta is often invited to international conferences. He has been trusted many times to be an examiner of neurosurgeons in Europe and he also contributed to build the system of education.
He has written dozens of researches such as 94 articles published in various international journals, 5 textbooks and contributed to 35 science books.
Even though he resides in Germany, every year he always comes to Indonesia, not only to visit families and relatives in Jakarta, but also to discuss academic issues with residents or neurosurgeons in Indonesia, including with Neurosurgery Department of FK UNAIR.
Head of Neurosurgery Department, Dr. Agus Turchan, dr., Sp.BS(K) said that his unit initiated to invite Prof. Lumenta as the honorary guest for his major contributions to the science of Neurosurgery. Furthermore, he has also published a lot of works in scientific journals.
“We knew Prof. Lumenta in 2004. At that time, he was busy going back and forth Jakarta –Bandung to give lectures. We negotiated with him so he could give us time for sharing knowledge with FK UNAIR,” he explained.
The good relation is maintained until now. There are a lot of students from Neurosurgery Medical Specialist program (PPDS) FK UNAIR sent to Bogenhausen Academic Teaching Hospital Technical University of Munich, Germany for months to learn with Prof Lumenta.
“This collaboration will continue. Beside sending students and lecturers there, in the near future, Bogenhausen Academic Teaching Hospital Technical University of Munich will visit FK UNAIR. The will stay for few months and learn some cases such as the brain injury, which is numerous in RSUD Dr. Soetomo,” he said.
Along with the advancement of science and technology of Medicine, Department of Neurosurgery FK UNAIR-RSUD Dr. Soetomo hoped that the qualifications of its graduates can be equal with the international university graduates such as on journal publications. It is in line with the expectation of Universitas Airlangga to improve its journal publications which is indexed by Scopus.
Meanwhile, the Dean of FK UNAIR, Prof. Dr. Soetojo., Sp.U (K) said that Prof Lumenta has long experience in international publications. It is of course an opportunity for UNAIR to achieve its target.
“FK UNAIR hoped that Prof Lumenta can contribute more to guide the residents or lecturers of Neurosurgery in terms of scientific writing and successfully ‘show’ the effective way to be published in Scopus indexed international journals,” he said.
In the end of the event, the Vice Rector I Universitas Airlangga Prof. Djoko Santoso, dr., Sp.PD, K-GH., Ph.D, FINASIM presented a garland for Prof Lumenta, and the Dean of FK UNAIR Prof. Dr. Soetojo, dr., Sp.U(K) gave the certificate of merit, and Head of Neurosurgery Department, Dr. Agus Turchan, dr., Sp.BS(K) presented the token of appreciation.
