FK UNAIR and Osaka City University Extends Collaboration

UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Medicine Universitas Airlangga extended its collaboration with Osaka City University on Thursday, July 26. The extension was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between two representatives by Vice Dean II FK UNAIR Prof. Dr. Budi Santoso, dr., Sp. OG (K) and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Osaka City University Prof. Kenji Ohata. MD., Ph.D. at a ceremony in the Hall of FK UNAIR.

Regarding the extension of the collaboration, Professor of Faculty of Medicine UNAIR in the field of Neurosurgery Prof. Dr. Abdul Hafid Bajamal. dr., Sp. BS (K) said that the signing was done as a renewal of the collaboration agreement that has been implemented since 2013. He hoped this collaboration can benefit both institutions.

“In addition to handling neurosurgery, it can also handle the field of neurology, pathology, rehabilitation medicine, and others,” explained Prof. Abdul Hafid Bajamal

He pointed out that cases of tumors in Indonesia and Japan are very different. In general, in Japan the tumors are dominantly small ones, while in Indonesia the average ones. So the process of removal of the tumor is also done with different techniques. “Hopefully this cooperation can complement each other,” he explained.

In the future, this collaboration not only covers surgical skills, but also journal publications, guest lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate students, and also provides lessons on how to publish international journals.

Meanwhile, Prof. Kenji Ohata confirmed that the collaboration between the two universities will be continued and maintained.

“The contract will continue to be updated for inter-state medical development efforts. Also to support UNAIR to achieve world’s top 500 universities, “he explained.

Previously, Prof. Kenji Ohata had been in Universitas Airlangga in the first MoU. He was also been asked to perform tumor surgery.

Meanwhile, the collaboration between Faculty of Medicine UNAIR with Faculty of Medicine Osaka City University which was done before was  student exchange program to Osaka related for research  for 1 month.

The two institutions collaborate because Universitas Airlangga meets the qualifications as a reputable university dealing with medical science, especially in the field of neurosurgery. So in the future, there will be a doctor exchange between the universities. (*)
