FKG UNAIR Alumni Association Organizes Relief Aid for Lombok

UNAIR NEWS – An earthquake with 6.4 Richter scale magnitude rocked the tourist island, Lombok, on Sunday, July 29 morning. The earthquake killed at least 14 people, including foreign tourists, and caused residents to flee to open grounds.

At the moment, refugees on sites really need aids from all lines and sectors, especially related to the daily needs of refugees. Universitas Airlangga Faculty of Dental Medicine (FKG) Alumni Association (IKA) also tried to relieve the victims’ burden from the disaster.

Coordinated with Earthquake Relief Aid Coordinator – Lombok West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) drg. Sidharta (alumnus of UNAIR), FKG UNAIR IKA succeeded in donating Rp. 13,575,000 realized in the form of sleeping mats for residents in the evacuation sites.

“In the past five years (2013 – 2018) Belanting and Sambelia sub-districts have been hit by natural disasters three times, 2 flash floods, and this year, earthquake disaster. “For earthquake, we did not even think it would be this big,” said drg. Sidharta.

As a tactical and responsive step, TNI Admiral drg. Nora Lelyana, MHKes, as Head of IKA FKG UNAIR in collaboration with FKG UNAIR worked together to help the citizens of Lombok, NTB, were victims of the earthquake.

“When a disaster happens, aids from anywhere always come. The form of aids we provide must be useful or needed. If it is careless it can be redundant, “said drg. Nora.

“Therefore, after receiving information from Drg. Sidharta, the results of the donations from Faculty of Dental Medicine alumni were realized in the form of a mat as a resting place for tents. I appreciate the efforts for this disaster,” said Dr. Darmawan Setijanto, drg., M.Kes, Dean of FKG UNAIR.

Until this news was written, the earthquake victims still needed aids related to their daily needs such as blankets, clean water, clothing, and tents for shelter. (*)
