FKH UNAIR Gives Training on Qurban Animal Slaughter to Mosque Staff in Surabaya

UNAIR NEWS – In order to provide mosque staffs with good and right animal slaughter, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held a training for qurban animals for mosque staffs throughout Surabaya. The activity was held in FKH Tanjung Hall, Saturday, August 4.

The training was also attended by the Head of  Institute for Food, Drug and Cosmetics Studies of the Indonesian Ulema Council (LPPOM MUI) East Java, head of the East Java 1 Indonesian Veterinary Association (PDHI), Head of the Surabaya City Food and Agriculture Resilience Office (DKPP), and Managing Director of Surabaya Slaughterhouse (RPH). There were speakers and mosque staffs throughout Surabaya.

Prof. Dr. Suwarno, drh., M.Si., as the Vice Dean III of FKH UNAIR, said that the training was one of the community service programs conducted by FKH UNAIR. In 2018, it is run for its third year.

“The beginning of this activity was carried out in 2016 without the support of DKPP and RPH. But this year we have cooperated with DKPP and RPH. Hopefully next year we can improve this activity again, “added the Head of PDHI Jatim 1.

Furthermore, Prof. Suwarno said that the goal of the activity was to train and foster mosque staffs on qurban animal slaughter, from the qurban selection, transportation, maintenance, health, animal diseases, cutting and skinning techniques, meat quality assessment, and meat distribution.

In addition, in this training the application of animal welfare so that meat produced is good and thoyyiban was also disseminated. It also increases the knowledge and skills of mosque staffs on the rules of slaughter, hygiene, sanitation and environmental hygiene.

“We hope that after the animal is cut it will not cause a polluted environment, especially blood and waste,” he added.

Regarding the material given during the training, Prof. Suwarno said that he would always update the material provided in the training activity, adjusted to the times and knowledge on qurban.

“So, if you attend this training every year you will get benefit, because the material we provide will always change following the times,” he added.

The training activity was opened by Dean of FKH UNAIR Prof. Dr. Pudji Srianto, drh., M.Kes. This activity was carried out for two days. On the first day, the dissemination was held, on the second day on Sunday, August 5 the practice of slaughtering qurban cattle, was carried out at Surya Pegirikan slaughterhouse, Surabaya. (*)
