UNAIR NEWS – In commemoration of Earth Day, GEN Corps as environmental reviewer body plant trees at the summit of Mount Penanggungan. It was conducted on Sunday, April 22 by inviting representatives of every student organization in FKp UNAIR and nature lovers organization in Surabaya.

The number of participants who followed the conservation activity was 27 people. The participants were divided into 2 group for the trip to Penanggungan. The first group departed from Faculty of Nursing on Saturday, April 21at 09.30 and arrived at Penanggungan at 13.00 local times.

While the second group departed at 13.00 and arrived at Penanggungan at 17.00 pm. To reach the summit, they had to get through 4 posts. There were food stalls in the first and second post while the third and fourth posts as a place to rest.

The tree planting took place on Sunday, April 22 at 09.00 am. There were 22 trees and they were brought by all participants ranging from post 1 to the summit of Mount Penanggungan.

The barren area around the summit was chosen by GEN Corps to conduct its action of planting trees. It was guided by Catur as the Forest Conservation Expert of Mount Penanggungan.

“We hope the action of planting in the summit area can improve the condition of Mount Penanggungan. Hopefully these trees can make the area around the summit look more shady and water supply also flows smoothly “, said Fachri one member of GEN Corps.

Fachri also added that the trees planted were fruit trees so the fauna in the post can spread the seeds of fruit. Thus, the seeds of the fruit will grow and spread in the surrounding area.

Students who care about the environment, he added, will show the real action to contribute and make changes. The change can be done by improving the environment.

“So is earth, every steps on earth is not without reason, to achieve the goal. Let us look after our earth so that every step we take can easily reach the goal, “he concluded.
